Massive FAIL! America Has A Crime Reporting Problem

Tracking crime statistics – and, more importantly, whether or not crime is rising or falling in the United States – is getting harder to do. That’s because nearly a third of America’s cities are no longer reporting crime statistics to the FBI.

This is more than just a problem for policymakers looking for data to address the cities most in need of assistance. It also means that some policymakers are demanding bad policy because they’re relying on incomplete data.

  1. From link - "Apart from Florida, there’s a common thread among the states with the lowest reporting of crime data to the FBI. These are also states that host cities with headline-grabbing criminal episodes and public officials reluctant to crack down on criminals. They aren’t shy, though, in calling for gun control."

Hmmm . . . but if they were all reporting it might make the Amish look bad.

  2. One way to stop crime is not report it. It's like magic.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office didn’t report any crime data to the FBI that year.

  5. Some nut job tried to carjack a friend of mine while she was stopped at a red light. He left blood on her car door window. She drove to the cops, who then refused to let her file a report or take a DNA sample for future prosecution. "The D. A. won't prosecute, why waste our time? Now if you'd been killed, well, then we'd investigate."

Yes, this was California. She has since moved states.

    1. Similar thing happened to me in 2007 in Edmonton. I was stabbed with a screedriver during the attempt. Criminal left a bloody hand print behind. Cops refused to pull a print and threatened me with arrest for fighting for my life rather than just dying.
