Second Amendment Thoughts

The culture war brims over with skirmishes over the Second Amendment. The modern Left maintains that it is dangerous and leads to higher crime rates, and that it was only important in our pioneer past. Some members of the Left may believe this, while others just don't like that it is a check on arbitrary power. The Right, whatever that means, sees it as a protector of individual rights. (What is the Right, anyway? The Left claims that the German Socialist Workers Party were on the Right, as though Hitler was passing out handguns to Jews to keep them out of the camps.)

It was not always the case that Democrats were so against the Second Amendment. Consider:

  1. gun control got its start in the south by the dems to keep the freed blacks from arming themselves. i guess they objected to being lynched.

    1. NAZI means natural socialist German workers party

    2. No, the National Socialists were right wing. They actually required students to take a course on their choice of religion, except of course jew. I have seen an actual report card proving this. Left wing, or communist, would, of course, ban any religion. People would worship in basements to escape the prying eyes and ears of communists.

    3. The Nazis - the NSDAP - National Socialist Workers Party of Germany - were decidedly leftist. Every concept that is national socialism was used by the actual Nazis, from government control by regulation of schools and businesses to religion itself. You couldn't be a party member or official and be openly religious.

They, the actual Nazis, were more right than the international socialists, who believed in government ownership of everything, and you couldn't be a party member or official and be openly religious.

Antifa was part of the international socialist movement of Germany.

In comparison, even FDR (hwack-sptooie) was a tad more conservative than the actual German Nazis. Just a tad. Maybe. Wait... he hated Jews and non Protestant Christians. He believed in the sterilization and/or execution of the undesirables (which included Jews... but not useful Jews, like Einstein.) He believed in government control by regulation of all aspects of life. Hmmm... that sounds just like the precepts of the actual German Nazis, doesn't it?

German Nazis were right of other socialist and communist germans. Which is why they were considered 'right-wing' by the other socialists and communists in Germany. In comparison to Libertarians even today, they were leftists.

    4. Anon. 7:38 - One bans religion, one co-opts it to spread propaganda.
You can call it left or right; it's still wrong.

  4. Sensible Gun Logic

1 - Eleven teens die each day because of texting while driving. Maybe it's time to raise the age of Smart Phone ownership to 21.

2 - If gun control laws actually worked, Chicago would be Mayberry, USA. Check out https://heyjackass.com for the true facts, as contrasted with the lies and distortions in the national media.

3 - The Second Amendment makes more women equal than the entire feminist movement.

4 - Legal gun owners have 300 million guns and probably a trillion rounds of ammo. Seriously, folks, if we were the problem, you'd know it.

5 - When JFK was killed, nobody blamed the rifle.

6 - I have no problem with vigorous background checks when it comes to firearms. While we're at it, let's do the same when it comes to immigration, Voter I.D., and candidates running for office.

7 - Folks keep talking about another Civil War. One side knows how to shoot and probably has a trillion rounds. The other side has crying closets and is confused about which bathroom to use. How do you think that would work out?

8 - A man who left 300,000 guns for the Taliban is lecturing folks on gun control.

Don’t be afraid to share this. There’s more logic and common sense expressed here than probably anything you have seen on the news today.

    1. #5 - Yes, they did, which is why the 1968 gun control act removed guns-by-mail-order and required purchases to go through an FFL, in person.

    3. Actually, only after RFK and MLKjr did they pass GCA68. Had JFK been the only one, we may not have had it then.

    4. The 1968 GCA was 5 years after JFK was assassinated. Nobody in politics waits that long to react to an event.

Besides, I remember the debates about the GCA in 1968. It wasn't about assassinations, not even the two that happened that year. It was about "saturday night specials" - cheap handguns - and men of a certain color allegedly going wild with them when they went out on the town. Racism was still the main motivation for gun controllers even in 1968.

  7. Just as a reminder, the Gun Free School Zones Act was one of many pieces of bad legislation that Joe Biden helped pass. (And he and his family are exempt from now.)
