A St. Louis restaurant has sparked a massive backlash after enacting a lengthy list of new rules including 'no hoodies', 'saggy pants' and 'sleeveless tank tops on men' - despite its own staff being scantily-clad in tiny uniforms.

ReplyDeleteSome of the other rules seem rather heavy-handed. Such as "If you touch it, you pay for it." What if it's disgusting? You have no right to refuse something once you've tasted it, for any reason?
ReplyDeleteAnd an automatic 20% gratuity does not even sound legal. A 'gratuity' is just that - gratitude for service provided. I prefer that I be the judge of the service provided to me, and that I assess the amount I feel is appropriate to leave the server.
But, as they point out, it's their house and their rules. I think I might try the house next door, instead.

Dress codes are racist just like statistics are racist. While not every guy wearing saggy pants and a sleeveless tank top will cause a problem, that attire indicates a greater likelihood of being problematic

ReplyDeleteMost people no longer understand what freedom is. A privately owned restaurant is free to impose whatever dress code they choose. Just like people are free to not patronize the restaurant. And the owners are free to impose such onerous conditions that they go out of business. It's called capitalism...and most people no longer understand how it works.
