More Americans Taking Second Jobs, Part-Time Work as Inflation Continues to Rage

An increasing number of Americans are taking up part-time work and even getting second jobs as worsening economic conditions such as high inflation have chipped away at their finances, according to experts who spoke to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The median real weekly earnings for Americans are down 2.1% since the first quarter of the Biden administration, with data from August showing a spike in the unemployment rate and a job market that is beginning to cool, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Due to wages failing to keep up with inflation and debt levels increasing, workers are increasingly taking part-time jobs and even second jobs in order to make ends meet, according to economists who spoke with the DCNF.

  2. I decided this year was a good time to flex that second job too and now I get paid ~$1,100 a month to go to school thanks to the American taxpayer and socialized education. A second job outside of my business was tempting but I passed and intend to follow through with my success plans.

If minimum wage actually kept pace with productivity after Nixon closed the gold window due to the federal reserve continuing to print unbaked FIAT, it would be around $25-27/hr; very close to the price of silver. This is why I would rather continue to build my business vs work for others; I keep my labor at its full value.

    1. Minimum wage increases are a FUCKING SCAM!
The minimum wage goes up "to help those who need money the most."
Then costs go up because of the minimum wage increase.
Costs all go up and the minimum wage earner is in the exact same spot or worse.
Now here is where everyone should be REALLY PISSED OFF:
That minimum wage increase means the worker pays more taxes.
That cost increase means more tax dollars collected due to the numerically larger cost.
The Government Ledger shows an increased amount of tax revenue, so they can then brag about the windfall or perhaps even a balanced budget......
..... until two years later when the increased costs for the taxpayer show up on the books.
Know how to help out those who earn only a minimum wage? Less taxes.
The Government could never permit that. Because without annual increases in costs and wages, the financial industry (and the real estate industry in particular) would chew itself up trying to make money. These increases are basically creating money from nothing.

    2. Anonymous my good man, you hit the nail on the head... Every increase in average pay is met by an equal across the board increase in living... Anyone too stupid to realize that is well STUPID or a demonkrap

    1. Did it never occur to you that perhaps some people out there, normally men, chose to work a second job in order to provide better for their families? This when the economy was doing fine.
I worked a second job many different times, in order to help buy something extra for the family, such as a better second car, or to pay for a vacation, instead of going into debt like many people do. This while working at the highest paying job in the county.
I spent over 35 years at the same place, doing what could be called semi skilled labor. When I left I was making about double what most shops were paying. I worked a second job when overtime was not available. It made no sense to take a second job when I could just work overtime and make a decent amount of money, doing what I was used to.
You judge people based on assumptions, that they are stupid and lazy, for not having gotten an education to get what you consider a real job. I contend that there is no shame in doing manual labor for a living, and while my job included much more than just that, I don't think that you understand that not everyone is meant for a college degree, and not every college degree translates into what you called a real job. In fact, I had to train at least 4 different men in my time at the steel melting factory, who had a BA of some type. The degree only meant that they were able to hold off getting a job for 4 years.
By the way, if you have ever flown on a jet airplane with a Rolls Royce engine, you're welcome. Because if it were not for the work that I and my colleagues did in helping to develop the super alloy for that engine, it would not exist.
Been on a jet ski, used a Mercury Marine outboard or inboard boat engine? Again, our metal. Ruger firearms, the tail fins for the Sidewinder Missile, you guessed it, our metal once again.
While I do have a bit over a year and a half of college credit, it has nothing to do with my getting my job at 18. I put an application in, and called the personnel office, now the Human Resources office every week for a month, until they got tired of hearing from me, and hired me. I never expected my employer to take care of me, just to pay me an honest days pay for an honest days work. Right now, the economy is in the shitter, and to not recognize that jobs are hard to come by is just not being honest. To call someone who can't find a job in this type of economy a dumb ass is a bit harsh, if not outright BS. I hope that you never find yourself in the situation that so many others have through no fault of their own. When the government shuts down the economy due to a perceived pandemic, and then prints money in order to give it away, it is pretty easy to predict what will happen. When the people are then hurt, it is not their fault, but the government's fault for mishandling, well everything.

  4. That's OK. Take on a second job, as long as you keep voting for Joe.
    That's all that matters.
    Good luck feeding your family!
