CA Bad Dreamin’: Gun Control Doesn’t Seem to Work, Data Suggests

Only days after the death of California’s Grande Dame of gun control—Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein—the Los Angeles Times is reporting that data from the state’s Department of Justice suggests violent crime has been increasing since 2014 and it includes an “increased use of firearms in homicides and aggravated assaults.”

This report seems to run counter to a July story at Crosstown regarding violent crime just in Los Angeles. Data from the Los Angeles Police Department at the time said the city logged 402 slayings in 2021, 382 homicides in 2022, and—at the time of the report—145 murders during the first half of this year. But this just covers a single city. California is a big place.

In San Francisco, according to Police Department data, there were 40 slayings as of Oct. 1, which is on par with the same period in 2022.

    How many reports, how many studies proving the same thing will have to be published before the general public comes to the realistic conclusion that the true purpose of "Gun Control" is more concerned with "control" than with "gun".
    Please carefully study the history of Germany from the end of WWI through the end of WWII; a good, comparatively unbiased source is Richard J. Evans three-volume work, "The History of the Third Reich."

      If the Left really wanted to stop crime, including gun crime, they would support enforcing the laws already on the books, as well as adding stronger penalties for offenders.

    Always going to be someone else's fault that requires more laws and government control. Just need the OTHER states to ban everything too! Never mind Mexico where 'military caliber' firearms aren't legal for personal ownership, but hasn't seemed to stop anything there either.

    How about looking for the REAL root of the problem and start working from that angle? Amazes me how data can be racist when they want to put blinders on.

    Firearm shootings increasing just means there's not enough "Gun Free Zone" signs. The solution is so simple even Newsom should have figured it out.

      Gun control doesn't work period. Look at NYC, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Baltimore and even our Nation's capitol, Washington DC. Those are some of the most violent cities in the US, and they also have the strictest gun control laws in this country.

      Israel went full gun control a few years ago and it has cost the lives of hundreds. Politicians love gun control more than they love the life of others.

      NYC has "gun control", Chicago has "gun control"; compare their death-by-gun statistics with any city in this country which does not have "gun control". You might be amazed.
