RE: #1 - In 1980. while stationed in West Germany, we were returning to our kaserne after training. The M88 was towing a dead M60 tank (which had no tracks on it - just road wheels on the concrete). This was on the autobahn. The towbar disconnected from the M88, and the M60, unpowered and with nobody on it, rolled on down the autobahn, towbar bouncing on the concrete and being passed by German civilian vehicles. Just as the M60 started changing lanes onto the shoulder, the M88 crew learned what had happened. They got in front to the tank and gradually slowed down until the tank bumped into the M88. Once everything stopped moving they reconnected the towbar (with a bit more attention to detail this time), and completed the road march home. Pucker time.
I had a 6 ton sandpot do that in downtown Toledo in 1984. Thankfully it as we were slowing for a light. My buddy looking out the passenger window at the huge plate glass office windows as each time I touched the brakes those 6 tons of sand would aggressively slam the truck until we stopped.
We once had a jack hammer air compressor in tow and it came unhooked. It passed us as we drove by the exit ramp as it made it to the curve of the ramp and landed in the open brush field. So much for early quit that Friday....
#5: I was expecting a shattered light. #7: "Target acquired" #9: The level of stupid on display here is impressive. I'm reminded of how amazing it was that I made it through those years of my own life. I did always manage to aim on fire flammable liquids and sprays away from my face though.
#1 - Every time I hook up the chains on my 7000 lb bumper pull travel trailer, I look at the chickenshit spot welds holding the chain to the tongue and think, those dinky little spot welds are going last about 2 seconds if this bounces off the ball and those chains are the only thing holding it. Good think I have electronic emergency brakes on it.
Make yourself feel better. Drill through the center of the link and put the largest bolt that will fit through the link and the frame with the heaviest flat washer you got. Peace of mind...
#6 When I was down in Haiti in 94, was on guard duty on a pier in Port Au Prince, watching food aid being offloaded, trying to keep desperate locals from looting the ship as it was being offloaded. One fucker got past, was chased by a number of others, and, carrying a full sack of rice (which should have been at least 100 lbs) fell off the pier. "Well he's dead" I figured. Incredibly, that man walked/swam underwater twenty feet or more, and emerged from the water, still carrying that bag of rice. Never saw anything like it, I was so impressed I just let him go.
Walking the dog last week & a local gardener drove by, dragging his gas string trimmer off the side of his trailer, grinding on the gas tank. Tried to get his attention the first pass, but didn't catch him until he hit the end of the street & turned around. Duct tape fix arryting.
#2 At least she didn't hit the camera. Do you know how expensive a new lens would be?

ReplyDelete1) Nice wheel alignment on the mixer. I've had cars I couldn't get to roll that straight.
ReplyDeleteTalk about keeping it in your lane. Very impressive!
DeleteI still wouldn't pass it.
