Next up: Illinois to ban meat cleavers for public safety
LAKE COUNTY, Ill. - A man was shot by a Lake County Sheriff's deputy who allegedly lunged at him with a meat cleaver Wednesday afternoon.
At about 4:05 p.m., Lake County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 34200 block of Barberry Court in unincorporated Round Lake for a report of a man bleeding who needed help, the sheriff's office said.
Well the cops did ban this individual's violence forever. Now wait for the family's lawyers to announce a law suit against the PDs for excessive force.
A man was shot by a Lake County Sheriff's deputy who allegedly lunged at him with a meat cleaver.---What they mean is a man with a meat cleaver lunged at a deputy. In the old days newspapers would hire a retired high school English teacher to proofread stories. She would also chastise editors and reporters until some of the rules of English stuck. Daryl
Newspapers use the word "allegedly" so as not to prejudice a future juror that might read the story cause the future juror to think that the perp is guilty AND so they won't get sued in the event that an "alleged" perp is found not guilty.
Interesting fact: what also happened the same day as Sandy Hook school shooting? A china man went into an elementary school in china w a meat cleaver, attacking 26 kids & 2 adults before being subdued...
In china, they have a knife registery & UK has a government program "save a life, surrender your knife"
Can't they just ban violence?

DeleteBanning meat cleavers is one thing, but how about the carnage vegans commit every day with their potato peelers?

The meat cleaver made him do it .. so a ban is justified. We have to shut down this anti social behavior among cleavers.
ReplyDeleteGrammatically and syntactically, the first sentence reads as if the deputy lunged at the man.
ReplyDeleteI didn't bother to read the article. My brain hurted.
Grammar - how does it work? Who did the lunging?
ReplyDelete"... a Lake County Sheriff's deputy who allegedly lunged at him with a meat cleaver..."
ReplyDeleteEditors, what do they do?
