Many moons ago I had an old Subaru with almost 240K on it that had begun to shed a head gasket and was going through about a gallon of coolant to every 60 gallons of fuel. I was strapped for cash but needed a replacement real soon. One morning I looked out to the driveway and that fucker was gone. After some checking I figured out that a couple of ne'er do wells had wrecked their stolen jeep in the middle of the night and decided to hike up the nearest little dirt road to find a replacement. The car was found about a week later wrecked and abandoned in the middle of the road in a town about 20 miles away. My insurance company totaled it and cut me a check, problem solved.
Reminded of a story about a coed who had an old car with a busted gas gauge. She would put in just enough gas in the morning, during her drive to classes, to get her through the day. One night it was stolen and the police found it a couple blocks away.
Kind of reminds me of a job i had back in the 90's. The owner was in town from another province and while walking downtown was pickpocketted.
A couple days later a van pulls up and 2 guys pull a street kid out of it and march him into our offices. The kid looked like he had been beaten. The two guys had leather jackets with patches.
The kid returned the bosses wallet and said he had found it. Then the 2 guys dragged him back outside and into the van that drove off.
If i was the cops i'd be looking into the owner, bet the thieves suddenly found out the owner was the wrong person to steal from.
