"SPIDER!!!"

DEATH VALLEY, Calif. -- The average tarantula is about 5 inches long, slow moving and not a threat to humans - or vehicles.

But when international tourists spotted one crossing the road in Death Valley, California, they braked suddenly, causing a crash that sent a motorcyclist to the hospital.

  1. Either that camper van had the best brakes in the history of camper vans, or the Canuck biker was following too closely. (I'll go with the latter).

  2. The spider was unharmed, I hope that Swiss couple doesn't trave to Florida and cruise the Tamiami trail cause gators are harder to brake for than an arachnids

    1. Gators make bigger speed bumps, ask me how I know this. Gators can run at 40mph and cross roads fast and had no time at all to swerve or brake... Couldn't use it for boots or luggage, after my truck and two axle travel trailer did some serious divots on the hide beside throw my alignment cahoots.

  3. Good, funny ScFi book. Wasp by Eric Frank Russell. Reputed to be a good handbook on PsyOps.

  4. My first encounter with a tarantula was my lab trying to sniff the tarantulas butt as it went across my backyard in austin tx. Leave it alone and we will go inside.

  5. Caught one up on a road near Pine Grove, and took it home back to Corvallis, and my girlfriend , who had experience with them, proceeded to pick it up, which shocked the heck out of me. I wouldn't have done that. But even mention a snake, and she'll disappear in a heartbeat.
