The State Fire Marshal’s Office said several blasts have caused major damage to structures and vehicles, as well as some injuries.

I remember seeing the video shown in the link when it happened and thinking, "Oh, we're gonna hear more about this for sure."
One of my favorite shots was on Seal Beach NWS a few years ago. Well within sight of traffic on PCH, we didn’t even shut down the road. There are lots of ways to mitigate blast and frag. The clowns in the video apparently didn’t use any of them. I believe we are getting dumber by the minute. While it’s kind of fun to watch from a distance, it’s going to harder and harder to avoid collateral damage soon. Eod1sg Ret
ReplyDeleteI was a plant manager for 15 years at a quarry in a city in North Carolina. The quarry was surrounded by homes that had actually built closer as years went by. I can count on one hand the number of complaints we had over the years. We took complaints very seriously and worked to eliminate any possibility of malfunctions. 181 complaints tells me that these guys were not trying to stop preventing accidental flyrock and other issues. They need to be out of business, We would not have been given multiple opportunities, but shut down.
ReplyDeleteDue to the proximity of Ogden, Kansas we were limited to only one ton of dynamite per explosion at the U.S. Army quarry in Ft. Riley. Ogden was well out of range for flying debris but could feel the rumble. We stood back about 1,000 meters to watch it, always a good show.
ReplyDeleteThe absolute best story for an over application of explosives has to be the exploding whale story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Na_zKbN2VJw
ReplyDeleteRay, this is another good one. I think I first saw it years ago at the old Knuckledraggin':

DeleteI think Kenny's old site was where I first saw it, too. Whether or not, thank you. I cannot NOT watch and listen to that story be told any time I happen across it.
Doesn't anybody remember me re-posting that just a few weeks ago?
DeleteUm...no. But then, I'm pretty stoned.
DeleteI disagree with Ray, I think this is the best over application of explosives. Mainly because I can imagine my dad telling the same story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzabmVIU6EQ
ReplyDeleteDunno but the old boy talking about the texas shitter explosion was high on my list of good stories.
ReplyDeleteThe whale and Texas shitter were awesome. Friend's dad had some awesome 'fishing with dynamite' stories too.
