US gas prices have either declined or held steady for 10 weeks straight. Here's why:

NEW YORK (AP) - It's not just you. Across the U.S., prices at the pump have felt milder in recent months.

Gas prices have fallen or remained steady since September 19 — marking about a 70-day trajectory of decline, Andrew Gross, spokesperson for motor club AAA, told The Associated Press Tuesday.

  1. No. They went up .20 cents a gallon here in less than 10 days.
I want to know what caused the artificial Drop ? Cause it was.

  2. Until the price gets to the 28 cents a gallon I paid in 1959 it's still too high.

    2. 24.9¢, Freeport, CA, 1973. I filled my Power Wagon up for less than five bucks.
Adjusted for inflation that would be $1.73 a gallon today.
That station in Freeport is gone but the average price in nearby South Sacramento is $4.56.

    1. You're paying just under 2 bucks there than I am here. Last time I was in town I paid $2.65 a gallon to top off.
Aaaand a quick check at gasbuddy.com just now shows our prices have gone up from $2.65 two days ago to $2.90 a gallon. Fifteen cents in two days.....

  4. Georgia has suspended the state motor fuels tax, that's why it's so low. Regular in SC is $2.68-2.88, depending on where you are.

  5. Price of gasoline in 1930: $0.20 per gallon

Current silver value of a 1930 dime: $1.77
    == two 1930 dimes are worth $3.54

Price of gasoline in 1930 (real) money: $0.20 per gallon.

  6. Just think how low the price would be if we used our own oil, instead of hauling it all the way from Iran and Venezuela. And President Dumbass sold 180 million barrels out of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

  8. Odd - TX, GA, and MI lowest? Heck, in CO I can get regular for $2.09 right now, though I note it varies widely, even within a couple miles.

    1. TX makes sense; lots of production and refining capacity. MI, actually has a rather large number of refineries and, when in the pipeline group, I recall that we shipped a lot of heavy and sour crude there. I am guessing that the shipping on the great lakes requires a bunch of diesel to support the industry. Someone said that GA recently suspended some or all of it's gas tax.

  9. Diesel is $5.60 at our local station in the California foothills. :(

  10. BS - Diesel jumped 60 cents a gallon this past week in GA. I was seeing $3.50 a gallon in many parts of the state last week and now it is $4.09 and up.
