Bonus Army Tragedy of 1932

On July 28, 1932, the U.S. government attacked their own, in a shameful display of power, using tanks, bayonets, and tear gas. To make matters even worse, all of this occurred under the leadership of textbook heroes such as Douglas MacArthur, Dwight D. Eisenhower and George S. Patton.  What was the Bonus Army?

  1. This was detailed in "Unintended Consequences) by John Ross, a novel about the Gun Culture finally fighting back. It's not cheap, even in paperback but is well worth the read if you're a gun person. Sorry to have learned that about Patton and Eisenhower

    1. I was able to download the book from the internet. Plus I have read it twice, it is that good. I got it from archive.org.
And I knew about the attack on veterans by supposedly decent leadership, for the false promises of the 1st world war.

    2. Great book, and yes, I have read it a few times. It wasn't the first time I had heard about the Bonus Army, but the telling in the book still chilled me. Don't think it couldn't happen again.

  2. Now, I wonder why I wasn't taught that in school?

  3. Looks like the Deep State was alive and well back then. MacArthur, Eisenhower and Patton knew where their bread was buttered.

  4. Yes. WWI vets who got shafted on the deal they made with the government. We have a similar group in power now who would literally jump at the chance to do the same to us.

  5. Our veterans have always been treated like shit by our POS govt. Just look at the circus called the V.A., so sad.

  6. The main reason I think Douglas MacArthur, Dwight D. Eisenhower and George S. Patton are all POS.

  8. Used to be a great picture of the 3 of them on horseback in DC leading the beatings of the WWl vets. That bonus helped my Grandfather buy a house. Can't find the picture today.

  10. I'm wondering why Hoover was not impeached and convicted and jailed for that... but I'm always wondering that sort of thing these days.

  11. What a shit show. On the bright side, Douglas MacArthur, Dwight D. Eisenhower and George S. Patton each got their money.

  12. The camp were also called Hooverville. I watched the video but didn't hear that name used. Those in power, Bastards them all. Fortunate Son comes to mind.

  13. They were told they would get the money in 1945. They *demanded* it in 1932. Beginning by asking would have served them better.

The narrator should take diction lessons. "Duh-wight" Eisenhower. New "Hamp-SHIRE". Sheesh.
