Commentary: Ruling Class Disturbance
The last few months have been interesting. We have started to see some very public disagreements among the world’s ruling classes. The gathering of elites at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, has long fascinated observers and become a lightning rod for criticism, becoming a bogeyman of the right, as well as the hardcore, anticapitalist left. It is a front-row seat to the thinking and priorities of the world’s most powerful people.

Interesting article. I disagree with the authors premise of the “elites” wanting to reach a truce with the populists. I think the “elites” are looking at a truce as a way of allowing the populists to vent a bit and nothing more.
ReplyDeleteThey’ll hope that the populists stop paying attention afterwards and they will then figure out another way to move forward with their plans. From my own experience at my last job (I had a supervisor who went to law school and because of that he considered himself one of these people. The election of Trump was not only something incomprehensible to him, but it brought out an absolutely demonic side of his personality. One in which he became openly hostile and acted with petty vindictiveness towards anyone who he knew voted/supported Trump. Covid sent him over the edge with him openly calling for the unvaxed to be hurled into the void. No, there can be no co-existing with these people. The moment that they believe they’ve got a second wind, they’ll use it to stab us in the neck. It’s us, or them.
I had a similar experience when working for a govt agency near DC. "Laid off" the day the electoral count was certified in 2020. That same agency did not allow pictures of Trump even though Trump at the time was "the boss". I guess they didn't want to cover all the Obamination posters. I understand said agency has become very woke since
DeleteDavos is to the deranged what Com Con is to the masses. Its cosplay.
ReplyDeleteI won't be surprised when fashion forward Klaus gets an Angora lap kitty.
