Sen. Wiener introduces CA bill to physically stop cars from going 10 mph over speed limit

California Senator Scott Wiener is introducing a new set of bills to make streets safer across the state, including one that would change how you drive.

It would require any new car or truck made or sold in the state in 2027 or later to have special technology installed in the car called "speed governors."

    1. This Weiner is a radical homo. He pushed through laws that lowered the penalty for KNOWINGLY spreading HIV from a felony to a misdemeanor. Including KNOWINGLY donating HIV infected blood. Of course he looks like a 90lb teen girl could kick his ass.

    2. Scott Weiner would suck a dog's dick. And probably has.

Apparently, he's run out of ideas for 'crafting legislation' pertaining to legalizing drugs and normalizing sexual perversions and is now moving on to more mundane matters, such as people driving too fast. And unless I miss my guess, if his speeding bill passes it will exempt current and retired lawmakers.

BTW, Jewish Philadelphia Carpetbagger Weiner has a law degree from Harvard. Shocking, isn't it?

    4. "Jewish Philadelphia Carpetbagger" -
Just a statement of facts. Describing someone as being Jewish is no different than describing someone as being Christian.

I have no problem making statements of facts even knowing our friends at the FBI and DOJ are probably listening.

My problem with Scott Weiner is that as a native of California I have nothing in common with the man, I share absolutely none of his values and I believe he and his ilk are destroying the once beautiful city and state my father was born into over 100 years ago.

I despise Scott Weiner. I don't hate him because hate is not of the Lord.

    5. Mr. Wiener........speed does not kill, it's the sudden stop that gets you.

  2. California already has this in place: it is called 'traffic mess'.

  3. How would the car know if you're in a 25MPH zone or a 65MHP zone?

    1. My 2022 Tundra shows the correct speed limit 90% of the time. The other 10% is when it's in a Skool Zone outside of Skool Hours and still shows the lower limit.

    2. Probably the same way my gps alerts me whenever I approach a reduced speed zone, even if it's temporary road construction?

    3. The navigation systems on new cars already know the speed limits.
I rented a 2024 Volkswagon Arteon for few days last year (easily the worst car I've even driven), and it not only knew and displayed the speed limit, it bitched at me if I was 5 mph over.

    4. GPS. It knows exactly where you are and what the speed limit is there.

    5. I've driven through areas where the GPS database was 20 mph off from the road signs. In many places.

I wonder if some towns fudge the data they send in on the local speed limits to maintain their speeding ticket revenue?

  4. I figure someone will have a way of disabling such a speed governor 5 minutes after the first vehicle with one hits the streets.

  5. Police will have to keep one old cruiser to catch speeders.

    1. Think about all the lost revenue for cities whose only income is their speed trap.

  6. The car nav systems as I know them display the posted speed limit as a vehicle travels, which could be linked to the engine ECU. Given this though, I doubt that a retrofit could be done for cars already on the road or those which do not have an OEM Nav system or have Nav units that aren't OEM-made (like a smartphone) and It wouldn't happen overnight for future vehicles. very, very impractical; if this becomes law.

    1. It could be regulated through the cruise control system. New cars have what's called "adaptive cruise" where it slows you down when you approach another car from the rear in the same lane.

  8. Forget this computer technology to keep people from speeding. Why not do it the old fashion way and enact a law that the only engine that can be installed in all vehicles is a Fiat 55 horsepower carb-fed SOHC 1-liter inline-four.

  10. Oh bless their little hearts....they've conquered every other man made disaster in that state. Now they can concentrate on controlling your movements.

  11. it will have to be a software control and as such, it will be out about 3 days before somebody hacks it.

  12. It won't matter because soon you will not be able to buy gas or charge your car in California.

  16. "I don't think it's at all an overreach, and I don't think most people would view it as an overreach". Typical banter from overreaching politicians. Why is this guy still around, nevermind, Californication!

  17. No vehicles above 60mph? Just sell Fords. They have been doing that for years.

  18. And then they will push for remote control of speeds...for safety!

  21. This needs a phased introduction. Year 1: every legislator or governor who voted for it. Year 2: all other state employees. Then if they all still like it, year 5 for everyone else.
Oh, and it's a felony with mandatory hard time for any legislator who evades it.

  22. So let me get this straight. 2025, breathalizers are installed. 2026, remote cut off switches. Now 2027 speed governors? There aren't enough trees or enough rope.

  24. Grant Califukinfornia all the "rights" it wants. Send all illegals to Califukinfornia. Grant that place sovereignty. All idiots that still live in that place get Califukinfornia passports and give up US passports. Then shut down all out-of-state power sources and put troops on the border; E vs W Germany in the 1960s style.
