He found the letter in a toolbox, and it was written by an army veteran to the love of his life.
Now the hunt is on to find the couple or their surviving relatives.
“It’s almost like a true love story. People just don’t write things like that nowadays, it’s almost like poetry,” Rick Trojanowski said.
Back in 2017, Trojanowski bought this toolbox at a farm auction. But what he found inside a couple of years later was like a scene out of a movie.
Inside was a love letter written 70 years ago addressed to Mary Lee Cribbs in Grand Rapids from Cpl. Irving Fleming.

ReplyDeleteMy later brother was a widower, his wife was a lovely woman who sadly pre deceased him, both of them in their 50's.
When i cleared their home i found an old suitcase full of letters, it soon became clear they were the letters each of them sent to the other while my brother was away on duty in the Royal Navy and later the Royal Fleet Auxilliary.
I didn't read them and made sure no one else ever would, burnt them and planted the ashes in their plot.
Some things are personal and sacred.
She apparently didn't even give him the benefit of a Dear John letter. The guy shouldn't have tried to pursue.
