Bill introduced to require California schools to have armed officers on campus

A public safety package has been introduced into the California Legislature, and that package contains a bill that would require armed officers at every school in the state.

While school districts across the state have been opting out of having any officers on their campus altogether, a California Assembly member is introducing a bill that would put them back on school campuses and armed with a weapon – and it's causing major controversy.

Now how are they going to continue to push for more gun control if there's an actual deterrent to school shootings?
I don't think I've ever driven past a public school in my area and not see a cop car parked right out in front in plain view.

  1. I remember Officer Friendly coming to visit the 2nd grade class in '65. Other than him, I never saw a cop at school from '62-'76. Looking back there were plenty of reasons they could have sent for one (me for several) but people settled their own s**t back then.

  2. A listener called into the Rush Limbaugh Show a few years ago (RIP Rush) and said that their city put actual police stations in the schools--"killing 2 birds" so to speak. Both simple and brilliant.

  3. When I lived in NE Atlanta there were school cops and they were called "Resource Officers" but there was less than one cop per school so they moved around. But the regular beat cops were encouraged to stop buy the schools for coffee breaks so there were cops within minutes of a school if they were not already there.

A few years back somebody threw a firecracker at the high school during class change. Within 4 minutes there were over 20 cop cars at the school with all the cops looking for an active shooter.

  4. There was a cop in my kids high school that carried a holstered 1911, hammer back, saftey on, strapped in. My son told him "that's dangerous". His reply "That's exactly why I carry it like that". Classic.

    1. As long as the cop understood what he was doing, it's probably going to be OK. What I worry about is the hoplophobic cops that are required to carry a gun, but learn as little as possible about it.

    3. Elementary school was in a tiny town. So small that the owner of the school buses was a Sargent on the force. Once in a while he would fill in for a driver on the morning shift and he would be in uniform. I can remember getting on the bus, climbing the stairs and looking up to see the side arm in its holster. Quietest bus ride I've ever experienced. Never once did I ever se a police car at the school, though. Yeah, I guess I really am that old.

You're assuming they're going to be consistent. They're not.

    1. I can think of one case in Florida and one in Texas where "Resource Officer(s) were completely useless in the face of an active shooter.
But Chicago School Board just sent their School Cops packing. Maybe they can get jobs in California.

    2. CA will hire the illegals. Doing the job Americans won't do.

  6. See, the reason you always saw police cars at schools in California was because they were serving warrants, not protecting the student body.

  7. You misunderstand. The armed guards are to keep thw kids in school, not protect them. They view homeschooling as a virus.

  8. I don't think it needs to go so far as to station a deputy at each school...just remove all those "Gun-free Zone" signs and the mass shootings will self-correct.
