SB01 has passed in the House and is headed to Governor Landry’s desk.
After years of tireless efforts and unwavering determination, Louisiana has finally joined the ranks of states that recognize their citizens’ constitutionally protected, God-given right to bear arms without the need for government permission.

So, the bill has gone to the governor's desk. That means it's not law *yet*, unless it's been passed with a veto-proof majority.
ReplyDeleteBut the article doesn't say that it has, nor if the governor is expected to sign it, nor when it takes effect.
Quite unclear if it's actually time to celebrate or not.
(And a real pity that this won't be passing in Colorado any time soon.)

We the people of Louisiana, the GOA, NFGR, even local grassroots NRA worked hard to elect our new governor who endorsed getting a clean bill to his desk. We have also put in lots of time and effort dragging useless rinos to vote on this bill. We are making sure this is a reality and fully expect Governor Landry to sign this along with several other bills fixing the mess john bel made during his 8 years as governor, probably by the middle of next week...
DeleteAs to when it will go into effect, we were pushing for April 19th but it's looking more like July 4th, not sure why the date change as I live 2 hours from the capital and it was changed after I left Monday evening...
Hopefully this answers most of your questions

Not official until the gov signs it
ReplyDeleteGlad to see our neighbors take back their right. Here in Texas we dragged our ass across the finish line in a wheelchair that was up on cinder blocks.
ReplyDeleteTexas don't have constitutional carry does it?

"House Bill 1927 aka The Firearm Carry Act of 2021 allows individuals who are 21 years of age or older and who can legally possess a firearm to carry a handgun without first obtaining a license. "
Yaay.. A law stating what the Constitution has always said. What is disturbing is that it is Considered groundbreaking and a Big Deal. In 73 the carjacking games were going on Big Time in Louisiana. After enough victims were killed or horribly injured the governor went on TV and told the People that if they wanted to get a gun and defend themselves, they should. In a matter of a coupla weeks and several carjackers flopping around, screaming and bleeding with their guts full of lead, the Game stopped being so much fun. Why did it take so long to figure out that an armed society is safer?
ReplyDeleteWe've always been armed, open carry with no permit required for over 100 years, just fairly recently concealed carry has begun to be a thing.. And what you are referring to is called the "Shoot the Carjacker" law, it came in 1998 I believe, shortly after the "Shoot the Burglar " law went into effect..

Glad they made it official. From what I've seen traveling through Louisianna they carry whatever and whenever they want all the time and are not noted for asking for permission from the Government or anyone else.
ReplyDeleteSo true

"god given right" with over 200 gods, whom do we thank? Many of the Framers were atheists why dive power to some non existent entity?
ReplyDeleteDude, I'm a nonbeliever but I don't go around dumping dumb shit everywhere I go.
DeleteYou should just check yourself sometimes

Huh. I always thought the constitution applied to all states.
ReplyDeleteThe libs and gun haters are howling, screeching, moaning and pontificating about blood in the streets while violent crime goes down and folks are happier and more safe.
