there is a good chance that was the only kind thing he has know in his life too. kindness toward strays dogs and cats is not seen as often as we would like to see. they never ask for much,, but do give everything in return. I have tried to help/feed strays whenever I could. dave in pa.
Back in the seventies a friend of mine pulled off an interstate to take a piss. There were some dumpsters nearby and he saw a stray pup. He said he sat there for nearly two hours before the pup finally came to him. He brought it home. He was just an incredible pal and lived a good and long life.

I believe it's the same one I read about- dog followed the whole way, and after all the quarantines and vet checks, went home to Sweden with the meatball guy.
You have to be careful with strays. A friend held his hand out to a stray cat in his yard. The cat attacked him, tore his hand up and caused him to have to get rabies shots.
I have a feral cat on my property and I got as close as a couple of feet from him, he was bigger than a racoon, but all of his claws were extended. I just say hi to him now when ever I see him...he eats well.
