Privacy specialist Naomi Brockwell @NaomiBrockwellTV looked through my phone and said I should DELETE most of my apps.
Here’s what she said I should delete and why.

  1. I yell at my wife and daughters about all the apps they use. It falls on deaf ears.

I love John Stossel and the red-headed security expert could check my phone any time.

    1. Maybe yelling at them about it is the wrong approach to take. Perhaps a different tactic would be effective?

    1. You're delusional if you think any cellphone, landline or computer isn't being monitored.

    1. And you think you're safe and not addicted to the internet. Check yourself first.

Don't project. Nobody said anything about "Being safe and not addicted to the internet." Of course I know I'm incautious enough to be here, for example.

But I've never done business with Google. My only cellphone is just that, a cellular telephone which has never browsed an inch in its life. Happy to say I wouldn't recognize an app if I stumbled over one. And yes, my opinion is that if you live on your celltoy you're an idiot begging to be fleeced.

  5. Just the tip of the iceberg. I read a book called 'Data and Goliath' a hand full of years ago. Absolutely terrifying.

  6. If that chick would just lounge around in a bikini talking, I would be very interested in what she has to say...

  7. I don't follow links to Youtube anymore. Since I won't delete my adblocker Youtube won't let me view any linked video but sends me to adware or some such bullshit.
If there is an X link, send that.

    1. Youtube's rule on Adblockers have caused the creation of many free adblockers that youtube can't detect. Google it sometime or try this one.

  8. Don't carry your phone to the range or self defense shop.
There is an alternative YouTube app called NewPipe. It's not in the Google play store. It's available from f-droid. If that makes no sense to you, ask a teenager how to get it.

  9. The wife has a friend who was always transferring money here, there, and everywhere with her phone. She mentioned several times to her about the dangers in that but it fell on deaf ears.
Last month the lady got hacked and her bank accounts got wiped out to the tune of her being thousands in the hole. The bank is going to make good on most of it but told her absolutely no more electronic transfers.

    1. ...and yet another reason to be cautious with your bank accounts.

I was talking to someone at my bank one time about the Debit Card she was insisting that I should get. She said "I use mine for everything, including when I get coffee in the morning". I replied "So you're comfortable with Star Bucks (there was a Start Bucks coffee cup on her desk) and every other merchant you do business with knowing your bank and bank account number, instead of using a Credit Card which zealously guards your account information and puts another merchant between you and a potential thief trying to get to your actual bank account information? You claim to be a banker and I have to point out how frivolously you guard your personal bank information?" She didn't reply, but I could tell by her expression that she was not happy with me.

I pay bills through the online banking feature offered by my bank. However, I have two checking accounts. One is my main account that I use for the rare occasion where I need a paper check and for making deposits etc. The other one is strictly used for paying bills and has a very low account balance, just enough to keep the account valid. It serves as a cut out to my main accounts in case the merchants and utilities I deal with get hacked. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I'd rather not have my bank account info spread hither and yon.

    2. We still write checks every month. Very good point about credit card vs using bank account info.

  11. Went through and deleted all the apps I don't use. Have to have a smart phone to do my job. Turning it off more and more now.
