States sending the most people to Tennessee

Fewer Americans moved in 2022, according to the latest census data, but of those who did, 1 in 5 moved to a different state.

Population growth has returned to pre-pandemic norms; Southern states continued to record influxes in population, while the Northeast saw the biggest drops, particularly in New York and Pennsylvania. These trends largely continued into last year, according to United Van Lines’ annual movers study. States with the most inbound moves in 2023 were Vermont, Washington D.C., South Carolina, and Arkansas, which moved up 14 spots from the year before.

Judging by the license plates I see, around here it comes in waves. Right after we moved here, it was New Yorkers, then it was Californians, then it was folks from Illinois and Michigan.

  1. I just want to get on the record, as a born and bred Western NY’er, not everyone from NY is from NYC and most of us are far more country than native TN’s understand.
When I moved down almost 10 years ago, I had to constantly explain to people that the County I grew up in had more cows than people and the Town was the biggest in the area with 530 residents.

I just want you to know we are brothers in the same fight, not your enemy. We didn’t vote for the taxes or corrupt union bosses. We just want to be left alone, same as you.

    1. Problem is even the most conservative NYer is way more liberal than liberal southerners, hence the political changes affecting the people who originally lived in the areas affected along with higher housing, taxes and infrastructure issues that come with large influxes of new people

  2. "Half backs". They go to Florida. They find out it's flat, got two seasons (too hot & humid, and damn chilly & wet) except for about 12 weeks when it's pretty nice but overrun with a whole shitpotload of Northern Complaints, hella hurricanes, too damn crowded, and even worse expensive. Ain't stupid enough to go back N'oth. So, they go half way back. And stop in Tennessee. We call 'em half backs.

    1. If you were talking about the city or the suburbs, you might have a point. But in my neck of the woods they can be quite different from the cidiots. I like to blast the squirrels in my backyard with the 223 because of the damage they cause. I like using the Hornady 40gr v-max. Makes it rain squirrel.

  3. Nothing will fuck up a state more than immigrants from NY or CA. Ask anyone in the Allentown, Bethlehem or Easton PA area after It's now easier to get to NYC from ABE than it is to drive in from Long Island.

  4. My dear friend and I were at our local tiki and were asked questions from a couple about moving here. (Florida) My friend asked them where they were from? They said, NYC! We both stared at them and they said, we’re from upstate NY and we are conservative!

  7. We have a New Jersey transplant near us. Very conservative, but an absolute asshole. I hate that worthless, ungrateful, sorry, lying sack of shit. It is a long story. But, if he was on fire I would not piss on him to put him out.

    1. He wouldn't happen to be a retired New Jersey state trooper living on a bloated pension, would he? Sounds like it.
