#9 The sky reflected in the windows is blue so I don't think it was lightning. Streetcar power lines conduct huge amounts of electricity, perhaps the bottom end of the cable touched one? Al_in_Ottawa
I did #1 with a can. Can wasn't secured properly. Shot it off about 50 yards and it landed in tall grass of course and it took me a half hour to find. Losing pieces that require a federal stamp is sub-optimal. Lets just say my level of double checking went up a few notches.
We had a #1 incident in Korea with an M-60D. We were out at this arial range west of Osan, over the low tide mud flats shooting at a small Island with targets. Each set of shooters brought their own -60 as this was to test the weapons out to. Well, one group didn't have the barrel locked and into the mud it went. So we had to drop off the guys to look for the barrel. No luck and the tide came in. Next day brought Engineers with mine sensors and after a few hours it was dug up from about 4ft of mud. Needless to say I had to wash the old Huey both days, as the mud was everywhere and smelled bad. I swear the smell never left the cabin for the rest of my time there. Wasn't funny at the time but I laughed so hard when I saw #1.
#1 looks like a baffle strike on a can, but if that's a can, it ain't rated for 5.56. Only cans I know of that small a diameter are for .22 LR, 5.7 MAX. Just speculating. Absolutely sure it wasn't a barrel nut. The handguard stayed in place and it looks as though there is some barrel sticking out past the handguard at the end. Mostly looks like Dumb-assery to me. With expensive toys. Eod1sg Ret
#9 HOLY SHIT
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell was that?
DeleteTodd near Denver
Agreed, what the hell caused that?
DeleteI suspect the broken cable dangling down struck a power line.
DeleteExile1981
I think that they found some high voltage
DeleteHuge fucking short circuit. The type that linemen fear.
DeleteThe cable on a window washing station snaps and hits a power line, causing an electrical explosion.
Delete#1 One shot, two bullets.
ReplyDeletelooks more like no barrel nut or maybe hand tight as best. if the barrel was blocked, it would be a lot worse.
DeleteMy friend had that happen to him at Ft Stewart with an M2 from the top of his track.
Delete#9 a lightning strike?
ReplyDeleteA short on the 440 line that went down to ground?

#3 Person's Monday missed by a fraction of being a whole lot worse.
ReplyDelete#6 Bet after he shit his pants, you couldn't drive a 4 penny nail up his ass with a Go Devil.

ReplyDeleteThat is why you rappel with a cinch knot.
ReplyDeleteLooks like they were top roping and the rope failed. Never climb with suspect gear. When in doubt, throw it out. Or end up like Dan Osman.
