Commentary: Rapidly Declining Mainline Church Seeks to Require Ministers to Support Transgenderism, Gay Marriage

The Presbyterian Church (USA) has permitted, but not required, its ministers to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies since 2014. But that allowance is no longer sufficient for the progressive denomination; it now aims to mandate that future ministers affirm transgenderism and same-sex marriage as prerequisites for ordination. At its General Assembly this June, the denomination will take up legislation that would implement that requirement.

  1. The Presbyterian Church has lost its way. Instead of preaching the gospel, now they want to move into marketing themselves. If they take this path they are nothing more than merchants and money changers.

    1. This is from 1 Corinthians 6.
      9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
      10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
      11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
      The most important part is verse 11. Some of them were sinners, but now they are not because of the Blood of Christ. No doubt these Corinthians were no perfect people, but due to the Blood of Christ, God no longer considered them as sinners, even though it is likely that they still committed sin.
      My point is that we are sinful, and no one sin is any worse than another. Try
      James 2:10 for that idea.

    3. The word 'WERE' in verse 11 implies repentance, which means they are no longer practicing those sins.
      Repentance typically requires an admission of guilt for a wrong; a promise or resolve not to repeat the offense.
      So, yes, while we are washed clean, that doesn't mean we practice the same sin.
      So, shall we then continue in sin that grace may abound? Paul replies with a resounding “God forbid” (Romans 6:2). To desire to continue in sin shows a misunderstanding of this abundant grace and a contempt for Jesus' sacrifice. Either we believe what God says is true or we don't.

  10. Just to let ya know; the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod still practices and teaches the Word of God. You may have heard that "lutheran" churches practice secular lies. The Evangelical Lutheran Church Association is one that comes to mind.
    So keep that in mind when you are looking for a church body that respects God's Word in peoples lives.

  11. I left that church when money ("pass the plate around") became important. This latest confirms I won't be back. Attendance is down - so is funding - and rather than go back to fundamentals, it's easier to pander to the evil ones. Just one more money-grubbing corporation.

  12. The Presbyterians split into two distinct groups many years ago, PCA, which kept the traditional beliefs, and PCUSA which is the liberal branch.

    the Methodists are in the process of doing the same thing now.
