  1. I have been watching a few youtube videos of WWII veterans who were interviewed before their stories are lost forever.
We can never live up to the sacrifice that they made for us. I pray for them and for this nation.

Yes, we can, should, and will.

  2. Lo, there do I see my father.
Lo, there do I see my mother,
and my sisters, and my brothers.
Lo, there do I see the line of my people,
    Back to the beginning!

Lo, they do call to me.
They bid me take my place among them,
    In the halls of Valhalla!
Where the brave may live forever!

  3. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
    We will remember them.

    1. I read on Wikipedia "on this day" in recorded history, and about 40% of it are wars between people.....literally hundreds of wars....

  9. It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.
It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
    Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who has given the protester the right he abuses to burn the flag.

  10. The men who serve do not deserve the governments who send them out to war.
The government's do not deserve the folk who go out and die for them.
    Ever.

  11. Invariably, our troops are sent on missions to 'save democracy', yet, we're seldom actually threatened, and we damn sure aren't a democracy. (Constitutional Republic) Our 'politicians' posture and bloviate to drum up a war, then fill their pockets, as does the vast military industrial complex that Eisenhower warned about. In retrospect, I doubt we've ever been on the right side in a war. If we had been, the ptb wouldn't have had to drum up the boatload of lies used to get us into it!

Apologies Ken, getting grumpy in my old age.

  15. Had one uncle land on Normandy. Wouldn't talk about it. Another uncle served in the Pacific on a Navy Cruiser. Wouldn't talk about it. A third uncle went to Italy. Would talk just a little bit about it, but not much. They're all gone now and I'm very sad I'll never know their whole stories.
