Fredericksen’s Hardware and Paint has moved to “one-on-one” shopping during certain hours, a strategy designed to prevent shoplifters from roaming store shelves unsupervised. Customers will be asked to wait behind a desk at the store entrance, working with employees with access to the shelves to fulfil their shopping lists.
Going back to the old style grocery / general store system is kind of expected in situations like that. I'm surprised it took this long for someone to implement it.
ReplyDeleteEven at minimum wage, that's going to raise the store's costs quite a bit making them less competitive against online retailers. I wonder if Jeff Bezos donated to the politicians who decided to make shoplifting a non-offense.

DeleteLooks like Clarence Saunders lived in vain. What worked in Memphis (for a while) doesn't work in San Francisco.
