    4. Highest airport in the nation. When I told a pilot friend it had the highest golf course and Death Valley the lowest golf course, he thanked me saying that is the kind of information he likes.

A favorite spectator sport is watching transient aircraft trying to take off at Leadville in the summer.

    2. The small town I grew up in had a few crossings on the outskirts. They only had flashing lights though. One night a local pulled up to the lights as the train passed by. After the train passed he began crossing as a train was coming from the other direction. Just like in #9 except the train took the trunk of his car with it. It was said he was drunk at the time. -sammy

  4. #2 that's doing it right. And I'd be willing to bet that they didn't get stung, either. Bees that are swarming are extremely reluctant to sting, but that doesn't make snorting a bee out of your nose comfortable. (Bees sting to defend the hive, and themselves. Swarming bees don't have a hive to defend, and ALL their attack instincts get dialed WAY down for the occasion.)

I usually used a 5 gallon bucket with a branch in it though. (Gives 'em something to cling to so the ones on the bottom don't suffocate.) Using a whole hive body like that is nice because you don't have to pour them into a hive body when you get back to the bee yard, but it's much more awkward to maneuver when you're on top of a ladder!

And no, it doesn't matter that most (all?) of the bees missed the box and took off. The queen is the only one who really matters, and as long as she ended up inside the hive body, you're pretty much done. And she can only barely fly, and is usually in the center, so she almost certainly ended up in the box. Set the hive on the ground and wait twenty minutes, and essentially all the bees will end up with the queen in the hive. Slap a lid on top and take them home! (At least two miles distant from the swarm location for best effect, though!)

Last I checked, a swarm (in the US) is worth about ~$50, (established hive is ~$120) totally worth the effort of going and getting them. Also keep in mind that it's illegal to use pesticides of ANY SORT for the purpose of killing bees. Wasps, yes, but bees are protected by law. Yes, even if it's just one of them. Swatting them is fine, spraying them with chemicals is misuse in contravention of label, and is a misdemeanor if not a felony. (Yes, the federal government doesn't have the authority under the constitution to regulate that. Good luck staying out of jail with that argument though.)
