Adding insult to injury

SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. - A trip to the beach on the Space Coast turned into a $500 bill for one beachgoer.

This was an all-around unfortunate situation for local resident Kathy Parsons. The first issue was that she thought she had paid to park at one of the kiosks but somehow messed that up and returned to a booted car in the parking lot. She paid $80 to remove the boot but didn’t know there was a timeline to return it at one of the drop-offs. Missing that deadline cost her $500 for 15 minutes at the beach.

  1. You couldn't pay me to travel south, at this point.

  2. Another case of getting screwed by the governmental bureaucracy and not even being kissed. But look at the bright side. She could have been driving home from the "boot depository" and been nailed by a "speed camera” for going 38 in a 35mph zone.

  3. Looks like maybe a privately owned parking company. If I get $500 for each late return, why would I want to make it easy to return?

  4. I’m confused - is she supposed to RETURN the boot herself AFTER paying to have it unlocked? Because if so, she missed a golden opportunity for a lawsuit settlement that could’ve paid her handsomely and ensured the rest of us will never need to worry about that nonsense again.

See, boots are dangerous things. They have pinch points. Sharp edges. They’re heavy. They undoubtedly have warning stickers on them that say something to the effect of “should only be used/handled by trained persons”. And when you REQUIRE untrained people to handle your dangerous boot when they have to return it, and they get hurt - you will pay. Excessively so.

Too bad it wasn’t someone like me. I’d be a up a couple hundred thousand and the rest of you wouldn’t have to worry about returning a boot to a kiosk ever again. I’d put a stop to that shit.

  5. good reason to keep a cordless 4 1/2 inch grinder and a couple extra batteries in the trunk.
