Are California drivers stuck with high gas prices for good?

A year after California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill aimed at punishing oil companies for allegedly gouging drivers with high gas prices, no clear evidence has emerged that gouging is actually taking place.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in California on Thursday was $5.31, $1.67 higher than the national average, according to AAA.

Short answer: Yes, regardless of the reasons or excuses. California gas prices have been higher than the rest of the country as far back as I can remember.

    1. Or, sometimes you’re stuck behind enemy lines for various reasons. Don’t judge all of us left in the PDRK.

    2. If he wasn't given room to mindlessly vent, we'd never hear from him again. He contributes nothing of substance to the conversation and is the sound of one hand clapping. I'm wore out from his bigotry ('Chinks') and gross generalizations ("You live there for one of 2 reasons. 1- You're a Newsom ass-licker or 2- stupid.")

Big talk from an 80-year-old guy who was vaxxed from New Jersey. Fuck him.

  3. Cali will have high gas prices as long as the ARB (hack, spit) is allowed to require CA-specific gas blends that change twice a year. What made sense with carbs and point/condenser ignition systems makes little to no sense with computer-controlled fuel injection engines.

    1. Great advice, Pete! Can I apply for a government grant to help me do that even if I'm not a person of color living in a disadvantaged and underserved community?

    2. "Government Grant". Oh you mean money borrowed from China that the American taxpayer will be on the hook for, right?

  10. Maybe, but only for another couple of years . Then gasoline will be outlawed. Shortly after they put up a border wall to keep people in. Like they did last time, and the time before , and the time before, and the time before...

  11. Remember when Al Gore wanted a $5 federal tax added to each gallon of gasoline.

  12. Everyone has a financial breaking point. California could actually end up losing tax revenue over this. More businesses and taxpayers are going to leave. (At the same time those who take from society are flooding to the state, soaking up free shit while not paying taxes.) So those who stay end up paying more to compensate for those who were taxed out. And the cycle repeats. Fewer people are paying more taxes, reaching their financial breaking point, so they leave, forcing those who stay to pay more, pushing them to their financial breaking point. This is not going to end well for California's communist party.

  13. California is sueing oil companies for "deceiving the public about the risks of fossil fuel"
    https://www.cnn.com/2023/09/16/us/california-lawsuit-oil-companies/index.html#:~:text=The%20state%20of%20California%20is%20suing%20the%20oil,the%20environment%2C%20according%20to%20a%20complaint%20filed%20Friday.

so are a couple of other states, Michigan I think,

Id love to see the oil companies just stop selling all of their products in the states that are suing them.
no fuel, no plastic, no fertilizer, no pharmaceuticals etc

Id laugh my ass off if they did that,
to teach the idiot voters in those states a lesson that elections have consequences

  14. Simple answer…. California fuel taxes. The state makes more off of a gallon of fuel than the oil company does. Then the State has the unmitigated gall to scold the oils companies for being greedy.
