In the early 1950s, a notorious bank robber, one of the first fugitives on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list, was asked after his capture: Why did you rob banks?
William Sutton's response: "Because that's where the money is."
Fast-forward to today. Thieves are targeting electric vehicle charging stations because the charging cords at each stall contain a 'gold mine' of copper that can easily be scrapped.

Save the planet, ecological folks are putting the theft problems directly on the fossil fuel industry. If gas pump nozzles were made out of Platinum, then the thieves would pay no attention to charging stations.
ReplyDeleteThink, people! How can we blame this on Elon Musk and Donald Trump?
ReplyDeleteEasily be scrapped? Not where I live, you gotta have a (free) permit from the sheriff's dept. and they want to know what your driving and if you're using a trailer. Doesn't apply to aluminum cans. I guess a few years ago the insurance industry in SC got tired of paying out for metal theft at residences & job sites. I seldom read of copper thefts and stolen catalytic converters anymore.

Gee. How long do ya spose the MSM has been hiding this story?
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha ha ha
ReplyDeleteI was wondering how long before the meth-heads figured this out.
ReplyDeleteThey put tags in gun powder and other materials that could be used in making a bomb. They put tags in printers to track language they don't like.
ReplyDeleteBut they can't track cables and can't block salvage yards from accepting stolen goods.
Was shooting the shit with my Brother in Law about this.
ReplyDeleteHe suggested Tesla leave the cables hot and when someone tries to cut through and gets zapped, have the charger change colors to the fluorescent blue of a bug zapper.
Sounds like a plan to me!!

Do not mistake EV's for "nice things."
ReplyDeleteThough I consider myself a law and order kind of guy; in this case I can't seem to work up any outrage.
ReplyDeleteBut Tesla isn't a government agency and Elon isn't a SJW, odds are (especially with the direction EV sales are heading) that he simply dismantles any charger site that this happens to and steals away into the night.
If we just could develop gun control laws, crime would plummet.
ReplyDeleteLOL!!!
A form of taxpayer reparations, perhaps?
