VA improperly approved almost $11M in bonuses to senior executives

Department of Veterans Affairs officials improperly approved nearly $11 million in bonuses to senior executives intended for other workers, a department watchdog said in a new report.

The money was recently allocated by Congress and intended to be used to recruit "critical skill" employees but ended up in the hands of senior executives in the VA's central Washington office, according to an inspector general's report posted Thursday.

  2. They built a brand new VA building here in my small city. Before that veterans had to drive about 40 minutes to the only one nearby, in Grand Rapids, MI.
The new building has been finished for at least 6 months, maybe more. It is a beautiful building, with lots of parking, etc. So far it has not been opened to use for the veterans that it is intended for. I don't know if that is normal or not, but it angers me knowing that veterans still have to make that drive, with many of them having physical or mental issues that they have to go to the VA in the first place.
As a nation we have never done very well by our veterans. Just the fact that we see things like Wounded Warrior's Project and a number of other private organizations dedicated to helping veterans and their families tells me that the government isn't doing enough to help veterans in need. The number of veterans living below the poverty line is a horrible stain on the nation, and in many ways it just goes to show how poorly we are doing as a nation to provide needed assistance for those who gave up both years and often health to serve us in the military. We as a nation not only can do better, but we must do better. This is not a Democrat or Republican issue but an issue of doing what is right.

    1. Why do you expect the VA hospital be opened? The objective has been met: hospital builders writing huge (re)election checks to congress. Nothing else is needed.

  3. It is always more important to pay bonuses to undeserving employees than to pay their bills. This is how VA providers end up carrying unpaid balances of almost 200K to small business. The good news is that the balance is down from 500K.

  4. The only thing I've heard from them in 20 years is two recent letters explaining their DEI policies and how to report sexual harassment. Those woke cocksuckers don't give a shit about veterans or real problems. It's no wonder they've put veterans on their bullshit domestic threat list. Too bad most of us old bastards are too fucked up to do anything if we wanted to. Eod1sg Ret

  6. I remember back in my Navy days, how fast they moved to claw back $2.36 I was overpaid on a travel claim.

  7. Shouldn't this be a bigger story? Shouldn't they have indicted people by this time? There's no fucking accountability in the government and the trust level is shit because of it.

  8. How many billions paid over the years for their employees to sleep at work? Sorry. Small potatoes to a government that is defrauded to the tune of 500b/yr.
