  1. yeah. I have the same ramp and could never get my old dog to use it. stubborn old dog !
and lifting a 110 pound dog gets really old fast too. I should start the young dogs we have now using it but they like jumping in too much. dave in pa.

    1. Both are at the end and either cannot afford to lose the other.

  3. We had a similar one for our last Shepherd. We miss her (she was 12) but we have a 2 year old now who is crazy funny. Jeff C in NC

    1. Same problem here, I believe the dust from Africa arrived early...

  5. Did that for our beloved mongrel in her final years. Passed the ramp on to one of her Park Buddies who was headed in that direction.

  6. I have to use a the same ramp for my dog (made by Weathertech)... it's a finger pincher for sure so you have to watch out, but it's easier then picking him up.

  7. Kind of nice that that young guy was touched by that scene.

  8. I have one of those ramps. Used it for 3 dogs now as they've gotten too old or had other health issues that kept them from being able to jump/climb into the truck. Just have to be patient with the pups as they figure out the ramp.

  9. I used to have to sneak up on my old 80lb chessy to pick him up to carry him upstairs at night. He resented his disability but put up with my help. Old rescues are the best dogs there are. Easing their exit in their final years (or sadly, sometimes only months) is the most rewarding thing I get to do these days. Old men and old dogs understand something few others even guess at.

    1. I figure that asshole dog Jack was the last young dog I get. I'm almost 65 and I can't feature getting a pup that will outlive me and be hard to be adopted out after I go.
I'll probably end up getting a senior dog and giving him some good final years.

    2. Made the same decision when our last dog died. I get my dog fix from my neighbors mutts now. A hard decision to live with some days,

  12. They give us their best and when they get old we owe them the best.

  13. A word about older dogs whose hips are getting painful. Rimadyl (generic: Carprofen) is like Aleve is for us. With our second Goldie, it was like taking three years off of her. She could move so much easier.

  15. I had something like that for Wolfgang.

And Greg, we had him on Adaquan which worked great until his hips got so bad he just couldn't walk.

  16. my old Malamute has been gone for a few years now, but when the family all "left" papa, he stayed with me until he couldn't get up anymore. I slept near him for his last week or so... if it wasn't for him, this ol' buzzard might not have made it through. Thank you, brother Kenny - and you too, Wisco... even though you made an old man cry - you made him smile as well.
Now, the final game of the Stanley Cup is on this evening, so back to being an asshole.

  17. When your dog can't get himself into the car with out assistance it means the end is near. Enjoy the time remaining because it's not a lot. Seen it too many times. Tough to know they dont have long.
