That person has no friends that own a truck, apparently. Most truck owners know that someone they know will ask to 'borrow' their truck to get a task involving bulky stuff from here to there.
My last car was a 1968 Fury I bought right after I got out of the Army in '81. It lasted about 6 months before I totaled it. My personal vehicles have been trucks ever since.
Cheers to the shit we've carried on cars, motorcycles and even shit that was too big for a truck or trailers we had at the time. 2 tons on a mini harbor freight trailer being pulled by a Geo Tracker (wag the dog, will ya?), full 9" rear (including rims and tires) on a LS2 Yamaha, 10 sheets of 1" OSB floor sheathing on a Dodge Avenger. Even bent a 'capable' trailer with a load once because of the length of the load and how it needed to be supported.
My last car was a Chrysler 300, used exclusively for commuting. My real vehicle was a 61 Apache short fleet, which a loved. In 2003 I bought a new Siverado, which is the only vehicle I've owned since, outside of Harleys. It's on It's second engine, tranny, rear end, and just about every thing else. I'll probably be buried in it, with a Harley in the bed.
Could be a marine. Improvise, adapt, overcome.

ReplyDeleteI stopped using cars in the seventies. To me they are a waste of money.
