Bob Newhart, the genteel but sharply satirical comic whose TV series “The Bob Newhart Show” and “Newhart” were huge hits throughout the 1970s and ’80s, died Thursday in Los Angeles. He was 94.
Newhart’s publicist Jerry Digney said he died after a series of short illnesses.

Too bad. I was a big fan.
I only know him via his disk recordings, first heard many decades ago, but they are timeless and priceless.
ReplyDeleteHe will be missed.
ReplyDeleteDaryl. And his other brother, Daryl
Quite possibly the very best at a dead-pan delivery. Side-note, he was best friends with Don Rickles. They shared an apartment in NYC while working their. To be a fly on the wall in that place!

Funny man with class and never crass. Watched him on Carson many times but the one time that sticks out is when he talked about doing a show in Germany and how his jokes bombed due to lack of German sense of humor due to German practicality. I'm of German extraction and having been around my German grandparents, I understand.
ReplyDeleteRip Bob I too liked him. When comedy was good clean fun. Not the trash you see now on t.v.
ReplyDeleteNever thought he was funny.

When my wife and I were dating back in the early seventies we would always make sure to be at her parent's house on Saturday evening to watch "The Bob Newhart Show". It was one of our all time favorites and not to be missed.
ReplyDeleteWho could ever forget Game Warden Gordon Borden?
ReplyDeleteMy parents bought a hi-fi in the 60's and it came with a Bob Newhart album. I still remember The Grace L Ferguson Storm Door and Airlines, Training a City bus driver and Revolutionary Soldier routines. Truly funny guy.
