"The necessity of implementing cell phone–free education in Virginia's K-12 public schools is increasingly evident," Youngkin's order reads. "Parents, public health professionals, educators and other stakeholders across the Commonwealth are expressing concern over the alarming mental health crisis and chronic health conditions affecting adolescents, such as depression and anxiety, driven in part by extensive social media usage and widespread cell phone possession among children. Cell phone–free education will significantly reduce the amount of time students can be on phones without parental supervision."
They had the same rule when I was in school back in the 1950s. But then again us students had no rights in school back then and weren't entitled to anything except learning math, English, history, civics and dodge ball.
ReplyDeleteThey need to enforce this rule on the teachers too. I have heard too many stories form too many kids (to include mine) that the "teachers" spend a majority of their time in class fucking with their phones, and not teaching the classes - thats that the computer program is for.
ReplyDeleteIPods….
ReplyDeleteGlad you’re back and hope you had a great time off. You were missed and I was in withdrawals from not laughing at Bogsides smart ass comments lol
ReplyDeleteThe problem I have with this is that when the kids have cell phones, the teachers can't get away with as much. I know that there have been several molesters caught because of cell phones.
ReplyDeleteThat's what body cams are for.
ReplyDeleteIf the kids can't have them in the class rooms then the teachers shouldn't, although I don't think it will work 100% of the time
ReplyDeleteAnother ridiculous policy that attacks kids' agency. Remember, kids are animals / property that are incapable of rational thought, social interactions, etc. They can be assaulted, forced into medical procedures against their will, stolen from, held captive, and it's all legal under the guise of parenting/education.
ReplyDeleteThe cellphones aren't the problem, it's a lack of self-discipline and home / local life. Kids that don't want to be in school, or lack the self-discipline to force it, will find something else to occupy their minds with. My phone is my access to Ptable, PHET simulators, my digital/online only rented textbooks, and contact to F&F.

Will work just as well as the "Drug-Free Campus" and the "Gun-Free School Zones".
ReplyDeleteThe only way to enforce that is to jam reception. They jam reception the kids won't go to class. The other problem, as others stated, is the teachers using their cells and telling the kids they can't.
