VIDEO HERE (16 minutes)

I really enjoy this young Merchant Mariner's channel. He contracts to a variety of cargo ships, everything from ocean going container ships to Great Lakes gravel haulers, and explains the different duties that are part of the job.
I don't think there's a single video that he's put out that I haven't watched, and if you found this video interesting, here's his channel with the rest of them:
As a Marine researcher, fisheries observer, and and eventual Co - marine survival trainer for observers, I've spent a lot of time with marine survival training. was prepared. Was on a Federal research trawler once in 36 foot seas. Fortunately the vessel was 225 feet long. We did get green water on the windshield of the wheel house during that, and would go weightless occasionally. Fun times! I'd do it again.
ReplyDeleteThere was a channel from a guy who worked the rescue boats in the North Sea. I think it was Big Wave Sailor or something like that. I guess they keep rescue boats out in the North Sea in case of an emergency on a oil rig. Great big wave shots. The guy recently retired. Was amazing to watch.
ReplyDeleteSorry, this was not fun. To get a permit for work on an offshore rig in the North Sea you had to do this. Imagine the rig on fire and you have just minutes to get 20+ scared shitless guys on the life boat. And there are 100+ guys that need to get off. Did the 'drop' once from about 80'. A friend of mine cracked some ribs and another guy dislocated a shoulder.
