Juan "Chi Chi" Rodriguez, a Hall of Fame golfer whose antics on the greens and inspiring life story made him among the sport's most popular players during a long professional career, died Thursday. He was 88.
That's funny. When I first read the headline I pronounced Chi Chi's name the same way Less Nessman did, and I didn't even realize it was him I picked the habit up from 40 years ago. Now I know.
That show was funny. "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!" And Chy Chy was a good guy.
funny guy! I was his chauffeur for a chi chi fund raiser tournament, everywhere we went he would stop & chat with all the folks that recognized him, told jokes non stop in the car, RIP cheech
Chi Chi, Trevino & Doug Sanders were big jokesters on the Tour back in the 60s-70s. After the old Kemper Open in Charlotte, Sanders "gave" his courtesy Caddy (furnished by Arnold Palmer Cadillac) to his female "companion" for the week. She was clueless. And probably blonde.

ReplyDeleteI played the course out in El Paso where he learned to play. He always seemed like a nice guy on TV and was a fine golfer. Eod1sg Ret

ReplyDeleteI sent the WKRP video to my partner; he met him and said he was a really nice guy.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw the headline I heard Less Nessman .....
ReplyDeleteDamn, you're just too fast Wirecutter!
Starker was here.
Fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteI always liked his swashbuckling bit after he'd sink a putt.
