Rats and mice are common in major U.S. cities, particularly the largest ones, which often provide them with the perfect habitat and access to plenty of food and trash.
Rodents are common in cities because of the access to food and sanitation practices, according to Terminix, a nationwide termination service. While small, they quickly become a problem as they can create public health concerns and cause significant property damage.
Because of this damage, Terminix looked into which of its 300 branches dispatched the most rodent control services in 2023.

Modesto, Stockton and Sacramento is one city?
A friend that used to work for a major national pest control company said that the EPA has "dumbed down" the pesticides so much that their bottom line has vastly improved as a result.

I grew up here and don't remember that ever being a problem. Now cockroaches on the other hand...

DeleteI can't believe DC isn't higher on the list. When we had a night job on Massachusetts Ave, when we took our break, we'd sit on the tailgate of my truck and watch the rats coming up out of their burrows under the metal grate surrounds on the ornamental trees on the sidewalk. They would climb into the trash cans and rummage around the bags of trash left to sit on the ground every night, waiting for trash pick up the next morning. Trash pick up was a daily thing in DC.
