One of the most preposterous recent trends has been the political use of supposed expert letters and declarations of support from so-called “authorities.”
These pretentious testimonies of purported professionalism are different from the usual inane candidate endorsements from celebrities and politicos.
Instead, they are used by politicians to impress and persuade the public to follow the “expertise,” “science,” or “authorities” to support all sorts of injurious initiatives and policies — of dubious value and otherwise without much political support.
Expertise, science and so-called authority are nothing more than the same trash that live on the government tit constantly sucking up whoever pays them.. In other words useless POS

We should have learned all about "authority" during and after J6.
ReplyDeleteThe nice thing about these experts and authorities is that just like the politicians they shill for, when strapped to a post, doused in an accelerant and set alight, they all end up being readily converted to their most useful form: ash.
ReplyDeleteI'll add that post-COVID, there is no so-called expert espousing the mainstream opinion/narrative that I will ever consider listening to, and certainly not one whose mandatory declarations I'll ever obey. Now that we are a society overrun with authoritarian pieces of shit, this class of little tyrants can be uniformly dismissed out of hand. Fuck them all with a rusty chainsaw. Sideways. At low throttle .
The whole expert thing goes back a ways. Remember the "experts" who were going win Vietnam for us by micro-managing the war from Washington? Or that more doctors recommend Camels than any other cigarette brand? Put on a white lab coat and you too can dupe stupid people into buying our product.
ReplyDeleteDo you remember when odumbass tried to scam us during one of his press conference with a room full of idiots in white lab coats trying to scam us into believing they were doctors.. I forget what kind of snake oil he was trying to sell us that time but I remember the attempt to lie to us.

Yeah, it's gotten to the point that if you hear an "expert" opinion, you can lay money that they're dead wrong. Doing the opposite of the "expert" advice will have you living longer, healthier, and wealthier.
ReplyDeleteOf course, this article also rightly points out that 99% of the "expert" advice is from politicians and the fake news media, so there's that too. Finding the truth is difficult.

Reminder to everyone: The word expert starts with the syllable 'ex'.
ReplyDelete97% of scientists agree with their funding
ReplyDeleteEx= has been. Spurt= a drip under pressure.
ReplyDeleteThe worst thing is if you were on trial and the prosecution brought in an expert, that the jury believed, even if they were one of these legends only in their own minds.
I counter appeals to authority by deconstructing the logical fallacies propounded by the authorities being cited. Once their reasoning is shown to be based on invalid propositions and flawed conclusions, it is easy to dismiss the authorities and, by extension, the individual with whom you are debating.
ReplyDeleteI used to debate with a philosophy major who had recently graduated from a seminary. One afternoon, we were going after it and a young lady in the recent group of hires walked by. She said to my opponent: Give up, Ben. You will never win. He does not care what position he takes and he will always find evidence to counter your arguments. One day, he asked me, "What do you really believe?" I told him. He was surprised. We quit arguing after that.
The pandemic really demonstrated how useless "expert" opinions are...designed only to support the narrative. I'm still waiting the reckoning so many of these people should face.
