Only about a third of U.S. adults believe the American dream is still alive, a Wall Street Journal / NORC poll published Wednesday found.
A survey of 2,501 people conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute twelve years ago found more than half of respondents believed the American dream “still holds true,” but now only a third feel that way, according to a recent WSJ/NORC poll of 1,502 adults. The study also found an increasingly large gap between people’s economic goals and what they think is actually attainable — a trend that was consistent across gender and party lines, but was especially common amongst younger generations.
The dream that you can pull yourself up by your bootstraps is over, but the dream that your government will buy boots for you is stronger than ever.
ReplyDelete🤔☹️
And yet, people are forming new businesses today.
ReplyDeleteBoot strapping has never been easy. Oh there are exceptions to that. But even there, it takes a lot of drive and passion.
Of the total population, a small number of people will have what it takes.
I figure maybe one in 100,000 at any given time have what it takes. They surveyed 2,501 to answer that question. At that number they would be lucky to find one who has the drive.
Ask any small business owner. How often do they hear from their employees and customers the lament that they wish they have what it takes? Even when an employer offers to mentor his employees, few to none will take that offer.
The opportunity is not dead. It is the lacking in most people which is at stake.
BTW: one needn't be born with a burning desire. It helps, but is not the only way. One can learn how to achieve success. They have to believe in themselves, to have confidence that they too can be successful. That really is the crux of the matter.
ReplyDeleteYes the American dream is dead. Not because the dirty commies killed it. It's because the American public commited suicide.
ReplyDeleteThe American Dream is not dead (yet).
ReplyDeleteBut it IS being maimed, raped and strangled before our very eyes.
No, it's dead.
DeleteThat's the spirit!
DeleteBridget, great name. Great movie.
DeleteScroll down.... You ain't alone. We know. We got this, bro. We even hold the moral high ground. Serious question. Other than Americans what other people would endured the shit our government has pulled on us the past 40-50 years? Our record of patience, tolerance and turning the other cheek is un-impeachable. I think i's over should they steal another election. God have mercy on them because I don't think righteously angry Free Americans will. I wont lose a wink of sleep over it, either.
DeleteTo "Proper Gander" Well-played brother free man. Bravo! : ) The laugh I needed for the day.
DeleteI think most people think that after the 2020 stolen election the democrats have put themselves in postions to steal every election here after. Republican leadership are democrats of a different name. So, yeah. It is hard to hope for the future.
ReplyDeleteI am a late Baby Boomer and my sister an early Gen X. It comes down to life choices. I was taught money management and she was babied and bailed out every time she struggled financially by my mother. She and her husband made about the same as me and my wife. I haven't had a house payment in 18 years and went into full retirement 3 years ago at 60. Sis has at least another decade of house payments and at least 1 car payment. I have a well funded 401k and they do not. They live paycheck to paycheck. We do not.
ReplyDeleteHow is it you got taught money management and she didn't?
DeleteWhere's that algeberra meme?... a third of U.S.... 2024... total govenment para... i means "employees"... carry the zeros... uh... dag blam it!.. it's truthy!
ReplyDeleteGeorge Carlin called it the American Dream because you had to be asleep to believe it.
ReplyDeleteAin't dead. We WILL need to fight for it but, we're fucking Americans, born of rebel stock. I still believe when the rubber meets the road, we GOT these globalist shit weasels. Don't be a defeatist pussy.
ReplyDeleteFirst you have to define "What is the American dream". Everyone has their own idea of what it is. I believe it's being able to live your life, to succeed (or fail) without government interference (within reason).
