I'd be pissed as hell

A couple in New Jersey is living a pet owner's worst nightmare after their dog sitter shot and killed their beloved pitbull, police said.

The couple, Lindsey Scalera and Andrew Beifus, dropped Remi off with a dog sitter in Readington Township before heading for vacation at the Jersey Shore earlier this month.

That dog looks exactly like that asshole dog Jack, same markings and everything. It's so close it's scary.

  2. Mauled or dead pregnant woman or dead pibble… Is this a “Guess the Race” bait thread? Pits aren’t for beginner dog owners. Becky and Tad should’ve got a poodle.

    1. Try reading the story before commenting. The couple was White and they'd had the dog for 6 years, so no, they weren't beginners.

    2. "Scalera told the sitter the were ready to return from the trip to pick up the dog. The couple said Kalli assured them everything was fine and that Remi was confined to a crate in a room.

The sitters then sent the couple pictures of Remi hanging out with Craig outside."

Did'ja at least read the story first?

    3. It was a pitbull. They've evidently been taking care of other people's dogs for some time. But one day, for no reason whatsoever, they decided to ruin their careers, and lives, and shoot a dog for funsies? Unlikely, but sure, it's possible. And if it was a Golden Retriever that was shot, I'd have very little doubt that they were just monsters. But it wasn't a Golden Retriever. Their mistake was not letting the owners come get the animal, the first time it got aggressive with the other dogs.

    4. I read the story Ken. I have owned many pitbull dogs and other known aggressive breeds. Owning a dog six years hardly makes one a canine behavioral expert nor does operating a canine boarding facility apparently. I won’t lessen the responsibility here for the boarding facility and it’s owners though either.

    5. Ken, the guess the race comment wasn’t a shot at you or the blog. I only meant to show that if we played “Guess the Breed” in the same fashion, pitbull would most likely be the top answer in the thread.

    6. No sweat, GI. I ain't trippin'.
I usually moderate my first batch of comments before I even start on my first cup of coffee so I tend to be a little curt in my replies. I need to learn to shut the fuck up until my motor's good and revved up.

  3. My first take was; If I shoot a dog in defense I get charged with animal cruelty? It is new jersey after all. I really didn't find enough info to know if the dog sitters were culpable of malfeasance.

  4. There’s not enough information in the article to indict the sitter. Article doesn’t dispute the wife was attacked but also doesn’t mention the severity of injuries (if any). The owners had the dog for 6 years, but the owners weren’t there and the dog was around people it didn’t know well. Or the dog saw them regularly, the article doesn’t mention it either way.

About the only thing I’ve gotten out of this article is that there is a dead dog that probably shouldn’t be.

  5. Sounds like another poor tempered shelter dog, there's plenty more where that came from. The shelters are full of pits. I doubt the owners weren't aware their dog had tendencies to attack other dogs.

  6. There was a reason that dog was in a kill shelter. Yes, it stayed under control for six years, but by the same token there are child molesters who wait years longer before they destroy another life.

    1. A kill shelter isn't someplace where they send vicious dogs, it's just a shelter that doesn't have a no-kill policy.

    2. We take our dog with us-He's got a little padded spot on the console & his harness attached to the seat belt; & he fucking loves it. when he figures out he's going for a ride, he's running all around the SUV looking for an open door.
Bring Fido has info on pet friendly hotels, as well as activities, restaurants, places, etc. that are dog friendly.
Air BnB & Trivago also have a category for bringing pets. Everything is more fun with my best buddy; the only hitch is; not welcome in Nat'l Parks.
Most state parks OK, but I wouldn't take a hike in the woods in the fall when bears are about, not with this psycho.

    3. Ken, I'm fully aware of that. The dog had a history that has been buried.
I've worked servicing rental property for almost 40 years. I've been attacked by dogs four times, three of them were pitbulls. All three were Not supposed to be there, tenants who rented without pets. I declined pits early on, they are high energy, and even the best ones do property damage when not provided sufficient outlets for their energy.
Only one of those dogs got teeth in me.
Dogs are by nature pack animals. If you have a dog, you must be the alpha of it.
As CC noted, better to take your dog along even if it's a shizu.
Right now Jersey pit rescue is attacking with claws out.
I used to keep track of dog attacks. I remember them being mentioned in several fatal attacks because of their all out rescue efforts.
Right now Craig Cooke is being demonized unfairly.

    4. Yet my pit as never torn a single thing up, and I regularly leave him home alone for 4-5 hours at a stretch. My in-law's Boston Terrier on the other hand..... they have to pen that destructive li'l fucker up any time they leave the house or he'll destroy it.

As far as Mr Cooke goes, it's a he said/she said deal and I doubt we'll ever know exactly what happened. Regardless, I'd still be out for blood if that was my dog.

    5. Yep. And "I'm a woman and I don't support Kamala, so how can you say most women are voting left!?"
Statistics and solipsistic anecdotes. Which one matters? Thomas Sowell was brilliant, a good man, and he was black. I still wouldn't live in a majority black neighborhood. (Not would he) Macro vs micro. And the macro is, most pitbulls alive today we're bred and raised and trained by monsters, to be monsters. The stats for deaths and mutilations by dogs (mutilations including children's faces ripped off and eaten) are worse (for pibbles) than the FBI violent crime stats are for blacks. I hate it, and I've loved a pitbull before, but it's simple truth.

    6. Oh horseshit. Quit generalizing. My area's loaded with pits, so therefor we're all monsters? Most of the pits around here are bred as pets and working dogs, not monsters. I've never had a single one get aggressive with me, but I can't say the same about some of the hounds and mongrels around here.
As far as your insulting me with your opening sentence, you sound like you support Tim Walz with his "I'm a hunter but I think ARs are a weapon of war" bullshit.

    7. "... therefore we're all monsters?"
      No.

Therefore you're all at significantly increased risk of seeing kids and adults killed or mauled by pibbles. Please look up solipsism. It's a common mistake, we all do it -including me-, and it's utterly unhelpful for rational discourse and problem solving. If my opening sentence insulted you...that was not at all my intent. I was trying to provide a helpfully "wake-up inducing" example of why your "my pibble never tore anything up..." was a truly terrible "argument" that meant and proved literally nothing.

"I know a nice black guy, so clearly FBI violent crime stats are bullshit." That's the exact same argument as "but my pitbull has never torn anything up".

No, AR-15's aren't weapons of war. They're a beautiful invention from the mind of a genius. Immigration is, however, war, despite how nice my neighbor from Columbia is. I don't say "but Guillermo is a wonderful guy!" When someone says "Minnesota is now Little Somalia thanks to legal immigration". It would be silly and solipsistic, and pointless.

If I tell my daughter "if you date a black guy, you're (paraphrase, I'm pretty sure the actual numbers are even worse than this but I don't have them on my phone right now) more than three times more likely to end up dead, and five times more likely to be beaten, than if you dated a white guy." and she replies "but daddy, you like Denzel Washington!" I'll know two things: 1, she's definitely female, and in the grip of her automatic solipsistic instinct, and 2, I'm going to need rhetoric, not dialectic , to reach her and protect her from herself.

I'd be pissed if someone shot my dog, too. I just have less trouble believing that it's possible they had no choice, given the breed involved, than if it was a Golden Retriever or an Irish setter, etc. It's a numbers game.

But this is your house, and I've worn out my welcome, and offended/insulted you, which is rude, no matter how unintentional. I'll shut up. Godspeed, Kenny.

    8. I'll shut up too. It's a touchy subject and neither of us is going to change the other's mind. There's no sense in making enemies when we probably agree on most other subjects.
