But can it evade gunfire at 4am?

  1. Does it come with a shotgun and ammo ?

  2. I've known several adult men that never mastered the art of waking up to an alarm clock.
Fortunately for me, I simply don't seem to sleep, so getting up whatever time is no problem!

  3. I see it as a matter of self discipline. I set the alarm for the time that I need to get up in order to get where I'm going on time. When it goes off I get up and get dressed straight away, it's not that hard.

    1. I have an internal clock, no need for an alarm. Before going to sleep, I would figure what time I need to wake up. With very few exceptions, I would wake on the minute. Without looking at a clock or watch, I knew the time.

Now in retirement, time hardly exists.

    1. An entrepreneur, that's who.

Which reminds me. I'm working on a holographic alarm. It shouts in a Sam Kinison voice time to wake up.
You can't muzzle it, turn it off, or shoot it.

  5. I've found that if I set the alarm for when I actually need to get up, it's not problem. Because I know darned well that if I don't get up, there's going to be problems.

OTOH, if I set it so I have fifteen minutes leeway? Yeah, all bets are off.

Lately though I've given up on staying up any later on weekends than on work days though. And I've found it doesn't really matter if I set the alarm at all, I'll be waking up at the same time anyway. Consistent sleep schedule FTW.

  6. No need for some cartoonish scene, chasing runaway appliances. Just set the old alarm clock out of reach of the bed. Or, as others have mentioned, grow old and become insomniac.

  7. Had a friend and co-worker who used two alarm clocks. One next to the bed, and one where he had to get out of bed to turn it off. A case of doing what works for you.

  8. I had a loud, double bell, wind up alarm and I put it on the far side of the room so I had to get up & walk to stop that noise. If I could reach it without getting up I could do it in my sleep.

    1. My grandparents gave me on of those old style brass alarm clocks for Christmas. It was so loud I would wake up in midair from from being startled so badly.

  9. I stayed at a hotel near Talladega, Alabama whose alarm clocks had turn-off buttons were flush with the upper surface of the clocks. Imagine being awakened at 5:00 in the morning and having to search for the turn off button tactilely, because your eyes are not open yet. What kind of an asshole designs an alarm clock like that? And what kind of an asshole then chooses an alarm clock like that for his customers? The second night, I asked the surly front desk agent for a different alarm clock.
