McNamara's Morons - The Low Intelligence Soldiers Used as Guinea Pigs in the Vietnam War

In 1966, Robert McNamara announced Project 100,000, not so much to meet the escalating requirements to keep America in Vietnam, but to spare America's poor and otherwise disadvantaged from, in his words, "idleness, ignorance, and apathy" by giving them a chance to "earn their fair share of [America's] abundance" and "return to civilian life with skills and aptitudes." Basically, McNamara claimed that one of the primary goals of Project 100,000 was to solve societal issues in America.

  1. I went in the army in 1968 and got exposed to some of McNamara's 100,000. Ended up with one as the driver on my tank in Korea. He was a continuous problem. One morning we roared out of the camp on an alert and he almost ran over the battalion commander. I jerked him out of the driver's hatch. He was messed up on drugs. (Again.) He disappeared into the system to be processed out under some less than honorable discharge.

Cannon fodder? McNamara's Folly was just one hurdle we had in that era.

    1. Sounds like DEI before there was DEI.

  2. Have read about McNamara and his merry morons on numerous occasions, and was before my time, but sounds kind of like proto-DIE. Point being that the rot in America had already been well in place decades before our current and painfully obvious shitiness.

    1. The rot really got started when they offed JFK. LBJ was a disaster (though not in today's terms; LBJ was at least competent in his nastiness). Nixon was railroaded for xxx (aka, being a Republican. He embarrassed McGovern and that was unforgivable). Ford was a placeholder. Jimmy was way out of his depth. Reagan was OK at first (and an excellent actor in that role) but Daddy George ran things after 82 or so when the dementia started kicking in. And then things went downhill with a Bushy/Clinton sandwich, and particularly bad as a result of some bastard from kenya being injected into the mix. Then FJB of words not strong enough to describe, followed (maybe) by some whore that says "Hold my beer" and makes FJB look not as bad. There's no going back (I was of draft age in the Vietnam era myself) and it will take at least 2 generations to recover ... but sadly, it won't. But that's you younger folks' problem; God doesn't grant that long a life to anyone for me to be around to watch (Damn, and here I am with plenty of popcorn)

    2. "The rot really got started when they offed JFK."..............

The rot got started when they got powerful enough to know that they could off JFK and get away with it. Whether they went ahead and pulled the pin on him or not, the balance of power was forever shifted against us, and it was gonna be all down hill from there.

    3. Yeah, the rot began shortly after WW2... Sowly at first with them pushing their bullshit up hill then over the top releasing the snowball effect to where we are presently... It hasn't hit the bottom yet so stand by for impact

  3. We can call the next round "Kamala's -" or "Pedo Joe's Peepers."
Either way, they can recruit just by using the Democrat Voters List....... after they get through the ones already deceased - include all of those parasite illegals.

  4. My cousin was an electrician on the USS Kitty Hawk and told me stories about an IQ 80 guy he worked with. If you let him out of sight with a pair of wire cutters, all the lights would go out.

  5. Not mentioned is how many troops were lost due to the use of these people. Friendly fire, no self-control, unable to follow simple orders...I could go on.

  6. Muhammad Ali was drafted the second time as part of McNamara’s 100k. Illiterate.

  7. McNamara came up with the brilliant idea of, "If you expend x amount of bullets, then you should have x amount of bodies."
I guess if you count the friendly fire, he may not have been far off!

  8. And there I was, a poor ol' dumb grunt with a GT score over 130 among a bunch of Good Ol' Boys who made me look like I couldn't find my way off the short bus, especially when it came to common sense. Funny how these urban myths won't die.
