MLB legend Pete Rose dead at age of 83

MLB legend Pete Rose, who was handed a lifetime ban from baseball, has died at the age of 83.

Rose, considered to be one of the greatest - and most controversial - baseball players in MLB history, is said to have passed away Monday at his home in Las Vegas.

The cause of death is not yet known, with the coroner expected to investigate Rose's passing. However, the MLB all-time hit king was reportedly found by a family member, law enforcement told ABC.

  3. Pete should now get his bust in the hall of shame, with a sign saying "Hall of Fame, sponsored by every gambling outfit supporting college and professional sports in the US, proving what hypocrite the MLB is".

  4. Should have been HOF
Not being HOF was one of the reasons I gave up on mlb.
I hope they don't give him HOF now because it would be meaningless if Pete couldn't accept it.

  5. Yeah, now watch mlb put Pete in the hof with some "HA-HA Now you're in, but you're dead so you'll never know" bullshit.

I just have a suspicion that they'd be petty enough to do something like that.
    Requiescat in pace.

  7. Would the ban be over since he had completed the punishment.

  9. In one of his specials, Dave Chappelle spoke of a life's lesson administered to him, "Never interfere in another man's (money) game." Pete, a good player but willingly involved himself in activities that could affect credibility of baseball's wins/losses. Hence, the ban. Got no issue with giving him a HOF plaque, but with long explanation of his gambling activities.
As far as that, he knew it was wrong. Never thought he would be caught? Not even smart enough to have a 'cut-out', another guy/gal to do the betting in their name, for 10% plus taxes. That way he would have never been found out.

  11. As a Philly native, Pete was one of my favorites. A small ball guy till the end!

It's sad he'll never see himself in the HoF.

  12. In this modern era, celebrities (including actors, musicians, politicians, moguls, etc.) indulge in worse vices and crimes and the pop culture celebrates them for it.
