Nearly half a million healthcare workers are expecting to get a raise this week, as the state increases the industry's minimum wage.

State budget issues delayed the pay boost by several months.

  1. "delayed because of budget concerns".

The state chose to delay it so they could come up with the money, but Fast Food joints had no choice.

  2. Gee, couldn't possibly be for more Democratic votes this close to the election.

  3. This won't affect actual healthcare workers who for the most part already make more than this. It will apply to the support staff... housekeeping, dietary, etc. Whether or not its a good thing is debatable.

    1. It will apply to union workers whose pay rate is tied to X multiplier of the minimum wage. I suspect that is the intent.

    2. Not so. Let me explain:
The janitor now makes $25 an hour. No education required.
The transporter, whose job is to push the patient on a stretcher from one part of the hospital to the other, will now make $26 an hour, as they require a first aid and CPR certification.
The PCT, who is like the nurses' assistant, will now make $30 an hour.
Then there are the Xray, sonogram, and other specialized techs. They will be making $35 to $40 an hour.
Nurses will now be making a starting wage of $50 or $60 an hour.
And your medical bills will become even more expensive.
Then the people will complain about that, and the government will take over health care even more than they already have, because "price gouging."

  5. My mother needs a healthcare worker but private healthcare workers are not covered by this and they make less than fast food workers.. Neither does Calpers insurance pay for home nursing care but they do cover tranny surgery. Our bank account is being drained.
