Reminds me of the neighbor's eggs

They've got 9 or 10 Barred Rock chickens and while the eggs are large and delicious, it takes an act of Congress to get into the sonsofbitches. Once you get past the thick shell, you've got the membrane to deal with.

  1. Man - what is the temperature of that refrigerator's thermostat set at ? I've had some of our eggs set on the bottom reefer shelf sometimes get solidified like that.

  2. See if someone at the local farmers market has duck eggs. Warning once you try them chicken eggs seem bland and lack flavor. My ducks are molting and not laying and was forced to buy chicken eggs

  5. Hmmm... I have barred rock hens. They lay brown eggs. That's a white egg.

    1. So are Kathy's barred rock eggs, but I wasn't talking about the color. It was about the hardness of the shell and the toughness of the membrane.

    1. Dude, I've got some news for you - if your left nut is just like that, you're female.

  7. I'm noticing more thick membranes in store bought eggs in the last year or so. I'm as good as the next guy at cracking an egg, but it can be infuriating. Especially when I want to separate a yolk.
