A grieving Tennessee family wants answers after they say a local funeral home mishandled the preparation of their teen for his funeral service.
Bobbie Money lost her son Aiden Pearson in an ATV accident a little over a month ago in Bledsoe County.
Money tells us they initially planned and signed for an open casket funeral. She says Aiden was an organ donor, and she was told his donations to save lives would not affect whether his casket could be open.
Tombstone, Johnny Ringo - “You smell that? Smells like somebody died.” Sorry, I just watched that movie last week and that line just hung in the air.

DeleteThis is fucked up and the family shouldn't have gone through this. I guess my question is when this issue came up why wasn't the body creamated ? A picture of him and his urn could have been displayed for the viewing.

Oooo, Oooo that smell. Can't you smell, that smell. The smell is all around you.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I had too.
The cost of dying is bad enough, but add this on top and it's sinful.
ReplyDeleteJust what kind of organ donations are we talking about here? I know of a man or two who laid out in the weather a coupld days or more and the undertaker still did a decent job of fixing them up for an open casket funeral. And some other rough looking people too.
ReplyDeleteDaryl
Some organ donation procedures especially where long bones are removed can disrupt blood vessels and cause problems with perfusing tissues with embalming fluid. But funeral home should have used odor controlling powder instead along with a heavy duty body bag and closed casket.
DeleteIn re: the above comment. My name is J Glass and I was a death investigator for over 35 years. I know what I’m talking about.
DeleteThanks for the answer J. Glass
DeleteBoy was a minor. His parents agreed to donate (or sell) his organs. Any fool knows you cant embalm a body that missing a liver, kidneys, hear, lungs etc. So, I think the parents need to STFU and go home
ReplyDeleteNothing like a little compassion, huh?
DeleteI guess compassion would be in order if a few blanks were filled in: Did the boy actually agree to donate all his organs and his parents agreed to the harvest to fulfill the boys last wishes? Or did the parents take it upon themselves to donate the organs? Did anyone advise the family that harvesting certain organs would make embalming impossible? Was the corpse ever under refrigeration? I hope the family would realize that a corpse would go south in a day without refrigeration?
DeleteCompassion is in order here, regardless. The parents lost a child.
DeleteFrom the 3rd paragraph: "and she was told his donations to save lives would not affect whether his casket could be open" and the asshole above says the parents need to shut the fuck up?
justice before compassion. You and I do not know the whole story here
DeleteThat's the difference between you and me - one doesn't have to come before the other.
DeleteI am just not ready to throw a family owned 100 year-old business under the bus until the whole truth is out. Dragging the funeral homes name through the mud because you feel bad a boy got killed on an ATV is not compassion or justice.
DeleteIt's pointless for me to say any more when I don't know if I'm discussing this with one anonymous commenter or four because nobody is willing to back up their thoughts with a name, even a screen name.
Deletealso anonymous, but different. NO you don't need the organs for embalming. You do need intact major blood vessels. But that is it.
DeleteI am inclined to agree with some of the anonymous ones. I am not a mortician but I know to embalm a body, you have to pump the solution into the carotid artery and flush the blood out the femoral vein. If the heart and lungs have been removed, getting a good clean job is nigh near impossible. But at least the survivors can have some comfort from knowing their sons organs saved some other people's lives. A sad story without doubt though
