There's some great pictures and a pretty good history of the Klondike Gold Rush, although there is some fluff in there.
Micheners Alaska is a hell of a read. Matter of fact I just realized I've only read it once and that was years ago. Time to do it again.
ReplyDeleteMichener's novel, Journey, was supposed to be a chapter in Alaska but expanded, instead, into its own book. It's about adventurers who start in England and go to Quebec, and then have to travel all the way across Canada to get to the gold rush in Dawson City. Both are terrific reads.
DeleteJourney opened my eyes to the real trouble scurvy can be to those in the wilderness. Something that doesn't get mentioned much in 'survival' forums.
