The average age of homebuyers in the United States reached an all-time high of 56 years in 2024, up from 49 in 2023, according to the National Association of Realtors.
Recorded from July 2023 to July 2024, the average age of first-time buyers also rose from 35 to 38, and from 58 to 61 for repeat buyers.
In my area, suburban Chicago, there is a middle aged single woman as a buyer for every family with children. Lots of empty nest families now, too.

ReplyDeleteThe first home I bought was a 12'x65' trailer. I was about twenty-two. I had a 72 Cuda paid for and they used that as collateral. Never had another man or woman sign papers for me to buy something. I kept it for five years then sold it and moved on to a house. I reckon I've had about six houses one that I built of log cut and milled in the Shenandoah Valley. Some folks prefer to rent. To each his own.
