One of the many things that draws them to the “Most Dangerous Street in America,” is a chance to see a grizzly calling card reportedly left by the young outlaw. But was the hole at the bottom of the Courthouse staircase really caused by a bullet from Billy’s gun, or is it just a fictional part of his international mystique? Join us as we explore the real history behind the legendary bullet hole in the historic Lincoln County Courthouse, and try to separate fact from fiction!
Almost 50 years ago, Dad took us there. He was a Frontier Times, Old West scholar. That "hole" was a crater back then. We drove all over tracing his steps, until we got to the "museum". Dad balked at the entrance fee and proprietors attitude. Fun times.
ReplyDeleteBilly the Kid was a murdering punk, not a hero as depicted in numerous Hollywood films.
ReplyDeleteHe wasn't any worse than anybody else in that era and area.
DeleteI'm reminded of the barber scene in The Shootist where the barber sweeps up ALL the hair
