Reward Friends, Punish Enemies

Afew months ago on X, I mused (somewhat tongue-in-cheek) that I was worried that if Trump won, he would concentrate on making good policy rather than ruthlessly crushing his enemies. I say that it was somewhat tongue-in-cheek because of course I would like the administration to develop good policies, policies that several of my colleagues have outlined in their contributions to this symposium. But I was not joking in the sense that if Trump does not concentrate first and foremost on destroying the people who tried (and failed) to destroy him, his presidency is unlikely to be a long-term success.

In other words, Trump must not be afraid to do at least some of the terrible things that demented liberals have been shrieking that he would do if elected. Fortunately, if this program is carried out strategically, not with anger but with purpose, “revenge” can also be a good vehicle for public policy.

  1. It is easy to confuse some people. They seem to see a lot of themselves in their self avowed political enemy. So returning to a republic from our current democracy could easily be seen as retribution. These folks have spent generations putting together the laws and boards needed to administer and retain their democracy. either way there is a lot of changes needed to be made to our representation in order to deny their democracy.

  3. I'm big into vanquishing my enemies and subjugating their women but I don't think that would make good policies as president....
Although heads on pikes do seem justified

    1. Probably because their women aren't the type you'd really want to subjugate.

  4. If, not when Trump wins his first priority is that he needs to drain the swamp, but the "system" that's overseen by swamp members will deter that effort. He really needs to focus on stopping the illegal alien invasion and turning the economy around. Putting too much effort in doing to them what they did to him isn't high on the list of things to do. Leave that to his successor in 2028

  7. Couldn't agree more, Wirecutter, and I think he should start by reaching back to all the bullshit Mrs. Clinton and company caused him and his compatriots to suffer through. I've heard Pres Trump say he didn't go after her because he thought going after the former 1st lady would divide the country, but really, SHE had no problems on that score, so I say prosecute her and her clan to the max! They've proven they'll sure as hell go after him, so let's get it on!!!

  8. The article is way too tame in its scope. Trump has four years and can't run for re-election so he shouldn't drain the swamp, he should evaporate it with a nuke. Every one of the 51 intelligence operatives who lied about Hunter's laptop should be fired for lying to their employer, the American public. Next, go full Milei on departments that are useless or unconstitutional, FEMA, Dept of Energy, Dept of Education, ATF, etc. All those new firearms the IRS just bought should be sent to the CMP. The DOJ should examine the bank accounts and stock trades of every Senator and Representative and their immediate families and prosecute without fear or favour. The FDA should be purged of everyone who was formerly employed by big pharma and receive its funding from the taxpayer not big pharma. Same day voting with paper ballots only, with mail in ballots only allowed for the military. Fauci should hang, of course......

    1. "The FDA should be purged of everyone who was formerly employed by big pharma" doesn't go nearly far enough.

The FDA, like the department of education, is as a whole a negative to the American Way of Life, and should be dissolved completely and permanently. Yes, that includes farm subsidies, as they benefit large corporations at the expense of small operations. They're a form of legislative capture.

And those who are guilty of conspiracy to commit mass poisonings, should be hung. Since that includes all those who have been (or were hoping to be) employed by big pharma.... Yeah, that about covers it.

  9. I like the "sell the airwaves" part, that money should go to buying back the IOUs they have been giving the Social Security fund for however many years now.
