I don't know if I heard this or if I made it up. However, it is a saying that I have lived by for many years. "Better to stay out, than get out." I'm a loner and an adventurer. I have always wanted to see what was on the other side of the mountain. In older age I think I about got that out of my system. Today I like being home. The gate is locked and if you weren't invited the gate won't open. Rarely do I have a visitor. Letting people into my life almost always ends up being a drag. Critters are the way to go.
Also, Robert Service is one of my favorite authors. The Shooting of Dan McGrew, The Cremation of Sam McGee and my favorite The Ballad of Barbwire Bill.
I don't fit in. I have frequently been chided for being unreasonable. The most succinct statement I have seen is that all progress is due to unreasonable men. Reasonable men are accepting and bend themselves to the situation. Unreasonable men question and act to change the situation.
Spectacular podcast!!!!
ReplyDeleteI sent it to my son (who happens to be gay). Even thought the speaker is 180 degrees different than my son, what he is saying is incredibly on-target.
Thanks for posting this.

ReplyDeleteBoth the poems of RW Service and Kipling had a big impact on my teen years.
DeleteThat was cooler than the other side of the pillow Kenny
ReplyDeleteThanks Kenny. I posted this over at BN. I too am one of those that don't seem quite to fit in, so I don't. I do dance to that other drummer.
